Article says Spurrier has 7-8 years left.

I figured it was more like 3-5.

What do you all think?

This conversation happens every year - and every year people say "4-5 more years". You'd think they'd be right eventually...

This time people actually a sort of measuring stick though in, Connor Mitch. Said Mitch might keep him going for four or so more years. I think it all just depends on how the team goes. He finally has a team/coaching staff that has the right mentality. He built it.

I don't believe Connor Mitch is a measuring stick because he's said that line before to other recruits. I guarantee if we sign a top tier QB within 3 years he says it again. I guarantee if we sign another 5* player he says it.

Basically, there is no measuring stick: As long as he is healthy, and competing on such a high level, he's going to stay here; until he can't go on any more or until we win the SEC/NC.

He didnt send other recruits a hand written note telling them that.

He's under contract through 2017. He signed a two-year extension last December. As always though, there's a way to get out of any contract.

Not debating that, but could that be because hand written letters to recruits wasn't that big in 2009? I mean, today schools are sending hundreds of hand written letters to recruits. In 2009 when Gilmore, Holloman, Jeffery, etc. or in 2010 when Lattimore was recruited - hand written letters weren't sent nearly as often if at all like they are today.

I'm not arguing with you about it. I'm just saying that I don't believe Spurrier staying here is based off Connor Mitch, a single player.

to be honest, I think James Franklin could do major damage to the football world, if he were to go to Texas. look at what he has done for Vanderbilt, and that is with what I consider, tied hands. I say tied hands because of the insane academic requirments to attend Vandy. he has to do without a lot of great players because of it.

what could he do with Texas money and talent? he's a pretty good recruiter, and it appears that his players love playing for him. I think it would be a good fit.

Or Dabo could actually be a great coach in the making, but due to our bias we aren't giving him any credit. Until he shows he can coach without high priced assts, we'll likely never know. Great coaches have always sustained their success even when their assts. got hired away again and again. Dabo hasn't coached long enough for this to happen.

Texas isn't worried about money. They want to win, and win at all cost. If that means hiring glorified cheerleader that connects with young recruits, and lets his OC and DC run the show, then so be it.

I doubt Texas takes this route, but it's obviously not insane to think about.
It actually is insane to think about. Dabo is probably #36494626 on the Texas coaches list.

Spurrier won't end up at Texas, but I could at least see them asking. That being said, I don't envision Spurrier fitting the mold of what they are looking for. All of the names mentioned for that job are younger coaches with long careers ahead of them.

Spurrier is happy here. I know a lot of people don't grasp that, but he really is.

I agree. His name may get thrown around by the media, but not sure serious ADs would look at him.

The cheerleader perception is not just a USC thing & it's debatable as to if he's a "proven" coach or not. The WV loss is still in the air and came just a few weeks after a not-so-smart anti-USC rant by Dabo in response to the Todd Ellis comment.

The only reason Dumbo is being reported as a possibility at Texas is because of Title IX. By law, Texas must interview a woman and a special needs WR coach. Dumbo fits both.

This subject makes the upcoming bowl game even more important. If SOS has 3 11 win seasons under his belt he knows the program is on track for a SEC c-ship. As long as there is that chance, I think he stays around. Lose to Badgers, then lose to TAMU in opener and I think the "magic" fades and so will his interest in coaching.

Don't know about Griff, but they didn't miss out on Manziel. They wanted him at CB (or some secondary position) which is what they wanted him to play. Other schools also wanted him in the secondary and not at QB.

A&M was the best school (biggest, closest) to offer him at QB, and that's why he went there.

But yeah basically what Pantherfan said.
