All I know is that they are a big part of successful NFL offenses. If they are open we should use them. The catch Anderson made in the UF game was great.

According to Tommy Suggs they we're open all the time.

It's easier to throw to a 6'6" TE rather than a 5'9" WR.

*Georgia: We gained positive yards on every run play from the shotgun formation EXCEPT FOR one (and you know which one that is). Also, people that say that lining up in the I-formation is better because you run downhill - it works the same exactly way in shotgun formations - the only difference is when the ball is received by the back.

There is no problem. Did we not utilize them? Sure we didn't. But it's not like we didn't when we should've or didn't and lost because of it...

Yes? If this is meant to be an insult lets take it to a PM instead of this thread, because even though you started it - I'll get blamed by my haters for hijacking a thread.

Tight ends will be utilized when opposing defenses respect our WRs enough to play cover 2. Pulling a safety away from the middle of the field will open it up for TEs - basic football.

It always fascinates me that when the TE isn't thrown to he's underutilized but when the QB does throw their way then he's checking down too quick and not letting the receivers run their routes.

They've also got to respect our QB. Running quarterbacks will dominate a Cover 2 defense.

Throwing to your Tight Ends will open it up for your Wide Outs just like running the football will open up the passing game. Everything feeds off the over stuff if that is what the defense is giving you. Considering the size and talent of our Tight Ends it is a shame that we don't throw to them more. They are big, fast, and tall. I know in the past Georgia would kill any team that they played by having a big tight end go out for ten yards or more and just sit and they would slowly move the ball down the field. Their Tight Ends were not as athletic as ours are now as their tight ends were like smaller lineman with wide bodies, but it was a very effective thing for them. Bottom line, with D. Byrd out of the bowl game, I would utilize every offensive weapon that I had to get us up and down the field till the other team showed that they could stop it. Who knows, maybe SOS will do that since he has not utilized it much during the regular season.

This was exactly how Dallas scored their last TD today. The pass was to Bryant but there was no safety help in the middle of the field. They threw to Witten a ton today.....mostly over the middle.

All good pro teams have good TE.

...

We had thousand yard rusher.
Our QB completed 61% of his passes.
He threw 20 TD's and only 1 Interception.
He was 3rd overall in the SEC in total touchdowns.

Can we stop pretending like this is a major problem and making it out to seem like we lost 6 games or Connor made terrible mistakes and threw 20 interceptions? We are 10-2. It just so happens to be that Anderson, Adams, and Owens were not huge portions of our offense this year.

Had we finished 8-4, 7-6 or something like that and they weren't - you might have a case for them being under utilized. Had we not had a 1000 yard rusher, and a QB who not only had a TD/INT ratio of 20 but completed 61% of his passes - you might also have a case with the "TE opens up the offense" point. But you don't...because all those things happened.

However, because our second leading receiver is injured, we do agree on the fact that Adams and Anderson need to step up. Because like it's been mentioned before in this thread, the production level is low because there have been some drops (say both had 6 drops, that makes the percentage of catches from TE jump 7% from 11 to 18).

Just bc a pass is thrown to a TE, does not mean it's a check down.

There's more to a TE then catching passes.

This too. The fact that we had over 2400 yards rushing probably took away from the TE's possible chances for a reception due to them blocking.

OR, maybe it's a conspiracy. Maybe we just didn't throw to Busta Anderson so he wouldn't go pro....(because he wouldn't have the stats too)

I know. I was pointing out the fact that when Shaw did throw to the TE he was constantly ripped for checking down and now when they aren't as involved they were underutilized.

It was stated that Shaw checked down a lot that season because he did... Spurrier utilizes that little short curl route over the middle to the TE or RB a lot.
