That dude is a troll. He also posts under the name Carolina Bo. He's always pumping up Whammy, which I don't have a problem with. But it's mostly so he can take digs at SOS, even after a great win like yesterday.

All true Gamecock fans are happy today.

We need big improvement on D for next year. Not saying the effort by 10 players wasnt outstanding but we knew what slow Wusconsin was gonna do and they still ran all over us. Whammy getting better at adjustments, too.
I meant to address this earlier, but neglected to do so. Just because they didn't punt doesn't mean they were never in a position to punt or give the ball up. They went for it on 4th down a few times and kicked FGs other times (even if only attempted), so it's not like they never faced a 4th down.

EDIT: Their 3rd and 4th down stats were 6 of 14 (42.8%) and 1 of 4 (25%, obviously), respectively, which isn't terrible at all for the defense.

One more thing, since we have shifted to the topic of offense .. they just put up 438 yards and 34 points on a top 10 defense nationally. So, surely, those rankings will improve.

Ward is invaluable to our success. Very good coordinator, very good recruiter, & the kids play hard for him. Here's the truth....USC has won far more games under Spurrier by great defense than great offense. This year's offense was the best of his era imo. Next year will be a different challenge with the loss of a running QB that created nightmares for our opponents.

The defense was soft in the middle for most of the year. I believe that was personnel & youth related. Next year will be Ward's biggest challenge & we must land the elite (on paper) defensive talent we have committed & the few remaining targets where we have a chance. Right now we have some solid guys returning who may make the next jump but right now few of those guys jump off the page to me like a Gilmore, Holloman, Ingram, Allen, Taylor, etc.

Very proud of this team, gritty, & when the game gets tight they usually find a way to get it done.

The stat being tossed around today is that USC is one of only 11 teams in the history of college football to win 11 games 3 years in a row. Steve Spurrier, his staff & players deserve all the praise that can be thrown their way.

Since we have talked a little bit about offense, I admit I am a little concerned for next year. We will miss Connor Shaw in the running game. Dylan is a pocket passer and can scramble a little but I think we need that mobility from the QB. How many times did Shaw pick up a 1st down or scramble for yards to keep us out of 2nd and 3rd and long with his running?

I think we will miss his running ability far more than we may realize. I honestly believe that is why our offense was as good as it was.

Better recruiting on the defensive side? That's your opinion and very subjective. From a recruiting perspective I give you Clowney for Lattimore, Quarles for Shell, Ellington for Golightly, Swearinger for Ace, Garcia for Ingram, Davis for Hampton, etc.

IMO the defense is better because of coaching. I think we've had better coaching on the defensive side than offensive. Ellis Johnson is about to coach in the NCG. He coached very good defenses while at USC. It's time for SOS to put a top ranked offense on the field, yes stat wise as in points per game. 31 points per game is chicken scratch in today's game.
31 points per game is chicken scratch??? Please elaborate. 31 points in the SEC vs the best defenses in the country is pretty good considering a few years ago we averaged 17. We have almost doubled that total.

In the mean time, our old HBC with his rickety offense that can barely muster 31 pts/game, putts along finishing in the Top 10 in the nation, has some kind of home field win streak, keeps winning bowl games, and beats his nationally ranked in-state rival every year.

I don't know how much longer Gamecock fans can tolerate such incompetence. Surely we can find someone better.

My overall impressions of the game bear out what the numbers seem to show. Wisconsin doesn't play in our conference, but they were 8th nationally in rushing (283 ypg). It took us almost 2 quarters to slow them down, and we didn't hold them under their average, but used heads-up play to stop a couple of drives. Our linebackers got blocked pretty well, but missed fewer gaps and tackles than earlier in the year. We had some loose coverage on passes (one LB was lost), but held them way under their average. We held them below their scoring average (35 pts) while giving them 7 on a KO return, and our offense kept the ball and helped the defense by TOP and putting them behind.
Overall, heads-up plays made the defense what it was in this game. Stopping them 3 times on fourth down attempts was big.
It didn't hurt that our O scored 34 on a team giving up 16 per game.

Spurrier reiterated this philosophy when promoting Ward to dc and had to reiterate it again this season. This makes me think that it is Ward's schemes that Spurrier had to intervene on. Also the recruiting deficits we have now are all on defense; corner and defensive end this year with lb being the deficit we had to deal with last year. Just not sure about how good of dc Ward is. Not sure what u mean, "always." I based my opinion on not being sure on Ward on specific arguments whereas you basically stated something that didn't really make sense.

What's the solution for our special teams problems? Punting should be fixed next year if the kid from NC comes to Cola to play. Not sure how to fix the other issues, let's hope Coach Robinson has some ideas.

Wisconsin has a dominant rushing attack. Our defense is the opportunistic type. We did well to bend but not break and win that game. It went pretty much as I expected. They were in trouble when they had to throw and we took advantage.
