No one has yet to answer my question which leads me to believe that y'all would be right there with the rest of us pissed that we blew another chance at playing for the SEC.

I'm telling you, it might not be now, but another year or two of the same thing and people are gonna start getting restless. Even you content old timers. There's only so long before 11 with nothing new to show for it loses its luster.

Shit son, I've got far more to worry about.

I let the football season bring me joy, not heartache. The Tenn loss stings, especially since it cost us a chance at upsetting Auburn, but I had far more good times this season than bad.

...and no, I won't get restless over 10 or 11 win seasons. If Spurrier starts cranking out 5 or 6 win seasons than maybe. But not 10 or 11 wins. No way, no how.

I disagree with you but that's OK. All I have to say as an old timer is that if you keep hitting the door with a battering ram you will eventually break through.

I love how people get pissed at Clemson for bringing up the history, and the "record". Any time they do bring up the past games, or the record, Gamecock fans everywhere scream "Stop living in the past!"

Yet when you talk about success here it's the exact same thing. Someone questions a Spurrier move our fans freak the **** out. They scream "DO YOU KNOW OUR HISTORY" and try to give you a history lesson. We've all had enough history lessons. No one wants to live in the past. You don't want Clemson fans too, but most of you try to use the past as a sword in arguments. Hypocrisy at it's finest!

When are history lessons going to stop, anyway? Yes we had a rough history. In fact we had a terrible history. We have, not had. But it is what it is, history.

Spurrier is the greatest coach to ever coach in this state, let alone this University. He as a ton of supporters, and every Gamecock fan (I would think) is his supporter. Those that do not support him have some serious issues in my opinion.

But there is a serious issue on this board that rubs me wrong. It really just aggravates the **** out of me. People on this board treat our players/coaches like they are Gods. Worship their every word, worship their every move. Their not GODS...they are normal people!

But it's not that they treat them like Gods that aggravates me. It's the fact that they refuse to acknowledge negatives. I'm not saying be a negative person, but people need to realize that there are negatives. Not everything is rainbows and butterflies in fields of cotton candy with unicorns and jellybeans. This isn't Candyland, this is real world shit.

How much support some of you have for our coaches/players is crazy. Like, unhealthy crazy. Scarier than that is the fact that some of you read that and thought it was a compliment. It wasn't. If Spurrier, Shaw, Clowney, Lattimore, Gilmore, etc went missing (just one of them) I would SERIOUSLY look at this board and think one of their huge supporters kidnapped them.

That's just how much you guys love them, and it's WEIRD. But that's you, and you do you. You think it's fine, fine. But be open minded. Spurrier is the greatest coach for this University, but not every choice he's made is great. Garcia was the biggest headache when he was here, but not every move he made was mad. Shaw is the greatest QB to play here, but not every choice/move he made was great. The fact that you love these guys like they're your son or brother doesn't make it right to refuse to acknowledge the negatives.

If I could share things I've seen on here without giving away my identity, the perception you have of half these athletes would change. You know know what you see, and you only see about 10%. You wouldn't buy a car if could only see 10%, I don't know why you'd trust and love a human if they only showed you 10%.

Sorry, I had to get that off my chest.

Donkey phizoo.

You have been answered, several times, several ways.

SOS will be here until he decides to hang it up, be it due to health, family issues, or he is no longer having fun. He has earned it and his place in SEC history makes it so. The older fans will not get upset. Tanner will not seek to get rid of him. There will be no great unrest among the fans.

Tough that you have such a low tolerance for inconvenience or disappointment.
Clempson fans are like that, though.

If a part of you isn't pissed off that we can be 11-2 time and time again and never win the big one, it doesn't mean you don't want it, but DOES mean that you don't want it BADLY enough. You're content complacent, satiated, satsified, whatever you want to call it. You are not hungry enough for it. You have to be really greedy and hungry if you want to ever get to the top of that mountain. You settle down and in 11-2 land right under the summit and expect that summit to just come down to you. Well it won't. We need to KEEP PUSHING HIGHER and HARDER!

Deep down, there are a lot of fans who are content with a 10 or 11 win season, beating Clemson and winning a Capital 1 or Outback bowl. Whatever.
Yes and there have been 1 or 2 each year that we got away with a win that we could easily have lost. That's just football, even Alabama loses some games and we can't go out and pick 5 stars off the shelf at the local supermarket like they do. I'd be pretty damn happy with 11-2 because tinker too much and 8-4 will come calling quicker than 13-0.

No More Excuses for Crappy Fans

The type that are not appreciative of the effort and advancement demonstrated by the South Carolina Gamecocks. The kind that do not understand the bond that the team has, and cannot see the comradare that has been established. The people who do not appreciate the unified, focused approach of the players and coaching staff. The ones that want to complain, using the benefit of hindsight, about mistakes, which are inevitable.

To those crappy fans, I urge you to read Nosa Eguae: Open Letter To The Auburn Family

Quote:
And in closing, to the greatest fans in America, “thank you!” I appreciate you. Through the ups, downs and times that seemed much like a roller coaster, you all stayed true. That is why Auburn is different. That is why we’re family! I cannot thank you enough for that.
So, the challenge to the OP and fans like him is to meet the standard of staying true. Can you be a fan that stays true? If you cannot, then it is obvious you are not giving much effort and you should be fired as a fan.

Sports are somewhat like the high jump. Not exactly like it, but somewhat like it. See, in the high jump, the bar keeps raising until no one can jump over it except the best. There is no maximum. For one high jump it may be 6 FT, another 8 FT. But for other sports, there is a maximum. The best you can do in College Football is be ranked #1, finish 14-0 (or 15-0 in the near future) with a National and Conference championship.

So you see, history can only set the bar until you exceed it. Once you jump higher than the last high, history has changed. No one looks at the lows and say "see where we came from", they look at the high and say "Lets go higher".

Our history sucked, our high was winning 10 games. Now our high is winning 11 games, #4 overall. You know, when a coach does that he gets his fair share of chances to top it, but after a while (7-10 years) if he never tops it again you have to wonder if he even can top it. And if you determine he can't, well, then you find someone who can try too.

See, that's where everyone is getting confused at around here. No one is saying "Fire Spurrier!!!". No one is saying that. Not. One. Person. They're saying that in the future, 2 losses will not be acceptable. Yes, it will be if you live in the past, but not in the present! If you live in the past and always claim "I remember when we never won a game" then yes, you're accepting the fact that 2 losses is great, and if we never win anything valuable you'll be happy. Not saying you don't WANT to win, but you're accepting NOT winning.

Others are saying that in a few years, if we continue this trail of success, losing 2 games is not acceptable. Thats where the difference lies.

But yeah, I'm very happy with what our Gamecocks have been accomplishing, considering where we once were, but it's time to take the next step. We've already won 11 games, beaten top ranked opponents, our rivals, won the SEC East, etc, but it's now time to win the SEC Championship and win a BCS game.
I think SC had a much better all around team than Auburn and SC would have won the SEC Championship game. Also I have no doubt in my mind that SC would have beat FSU on Monday night with they way FSU played, I was not impressed one bit with thier team. So basically the team missed out on playing for National Championship because of one bad game against a weak opponet. The orginal poster is 1000% correct.

Spurrier is a Genius .. He took three 7-5 teams to three 11-2 .. I am well satisfied with the USC Gamecocks and I will not be surprised at where ever we may end up 2014 ..
Whoever sits back and demands perfection please post pictures of your girlfriend .. Bwahahahaha

Yet one or more posters are certain that if SOS doesn't win a SEC title soon, he'll leave. That is only if he tires trying or our lunatic fringe run him off by unrealistic demands.

If we only try harder or want it more!!! That's all we needed all these years? Amazing no one came up with that slant before now. That promises nothing when your kids are giving it all they have already. Some things come down to pure luck, good or bad. Our first CWS title, for instance. How many fortunate breaks can you get and still win. Our good fortune was beyond expectation. If Jackie Bradley, Jr, did not get that clutch hit against Oklahoma to keep the season alive, does that mean he did not want it enough or did not try hard enough? Did all the other teams we made near miraculous plays against n Omaha not want it enough or try hard enough? That's about an invalid an argument anyone can make. Sometimes someone makes a spectacular play or two or three, something neither side can depend upon. Even so, every other possible element in those plays had to go perfectly for them to happen.

Every team wants to win the SEC and no one is sitting around twirling their thumbs. Why did we only win one ACC title in football or basketball? It ain't easy, at least it wasn't for us.

My God, we have had so many coaching changes around here over a period of years here, trying to find that coach who could win, it was numbing. Changing a coach does mean more wins, necessarily. What we do know it took us 113 years to find someone to just get us above mediocrity, let alone an upper tier SEC team and a solid Top 10 in the nation.

You can do both. Appreciate the accomplishments of new highs, but the higher you go, the more difficult it is to take the next step. Why? There is room for only one on the peak of the mountain. You can make the best plans, get the best kids you can convince to come here, and be emotionally and physically ready to do your best. After that, it comes down to execution of every play, the bounce of the ball, the call of a penalty here or there, a player slipping on wet grass, a bobbled pass instead of one cleanly caught, an accidental facemask, a player making a play when he wasn't even suppose to be in that area due to rapid recognition of the play or just because he became a hero because he made a mistake of covering the wrong guy, and countless other things.

No matter how much a coach or a player or a fan wants a win or how important a game might be, at some point it is out of the hands of the coach and his staff. SOS has made us able to compete with any team in the nation and that is probably a first for us. As long as the kids try their best, there is no reason to get angry. Disappointed we did not win, of course? No matter who the next coach is, he is under the exact same set of circumstances he cannot control in the exact same type of games. Either you have a season where every break or miracle goes your way like when we won our two CWS titles or it doesn't. You can't plan for luck or good breaks or incredible individual efforts when everything is on the line.

Unlike Dabo, talking louder or making wilder claims or doing whatever he can to attract attention, Carolina fans can enjoy what we have done, because what happened before has no bearing on the future. Each game, each season, each team, each foe, is different. No matter how much you want it, personally, as a fan, doesn't matter. You aren't out their playing the game.

If we have another season or two or three or five where we do well, but do not win the SEC, yeah, I will be disappointed and if I am still around, I will still hope the following season will be the one. All we had to go on for decades was the hope things would get better. In the end, we all want to win big. We always have. If our wanting it was enough, we would have won every year.

This argument about some wanting it more than others is as stupid as the arguments that some make that if you did not attend Carolina, you are less of a fan or if you do not stand up all game long, you are not as good a fan as those who do or if someone does not wear some type of Carolina gear, they shouldn't come to the game. Absurd.

We got guys who want to win it all and are striving to do so. On the army all american skills challenge they asked BAW if he had a message for coach Spurrier and the fans and his exact word, "we coming to win the natty next year." Fortunately for us our team is a whole lot more demanding of themselves than any of us "delusional" fans on here are.
Trust me when I say this, SOS has annual team goals to win the SEC and NC each and every year and you know all the players are acutely aware of this as well. Just because some of us are satisfied with what's happened the last few years, doesn't mean we don't want to win the SEC and a NC....but most of us have been around long enough to understand, doing that is very difficult and requires a little luck along the way.
