we didn't blow anything.....were there a few mistakes made, yes, but that's part of the game.....you might as well learn to accept the fact that nobody plays perfect games, ever.....if you think we should be able to play a flawless game, I feel sorry for you because you are going to be terribly disappointed at numerous things throughout your entire life.....you are just being unrealistic.

you probably need to go back to your video games.....by the way, did you answer my question if you have made straight A's in school your entire life....because if you haven't, why not.

Steve Spurrier hasnt made any excuses and he knows better then anyone that we lost some we shouldnt have and maybe won some we shouldnt have. If we would have beaten UT but lost to Mizzou nothing would change. I trust Coach will get it done and he wont walk away from it. Its why he came here.

It must be nice to be a sunshine pumper. Really just a convenience to be one. Any time someone says that they expect more out of anyone you just throw the history book at them. "Oh, <insert name here> wanted to go undefeated, well he must not realize how bad we were in the past!" But when it's not convenient to be one, like when predicting W-L for the next season, everyone just forgets that they use "history" as a sword, and lets them predict undefeated seasons without batting their eyes.

So what people want to go undefeated eventually and win the SEC/National Championship. It's not wrong to want that, or expect that in the coming years. You can only be a program "on the rise" for so long. There is a peak, there is a maximum. At what point will the sunshine pumpers realize that there is a peak? We may not have hit it yet, but we're damn close. There's only a few more chances to say "We're on the rise"...

I don't see why we are having this debate.

We all want to win. Fans, students, alumni, administration, players and coaches. All of us wish we had some SEC bling or a Crystal football by now.

We are all thankful SOS is our coach and hope he stays for many more years.

All the "history" is part of knowing or living in that time of the past and it helps to make the present more enjoyable.

The sticking point is some seem to think that "demanding more, wanting more" somehow equates to future improvement. That is not logical. If it were, we would be undefeated for ages. Then again, so would every other school with a football team.

Every coach ever hired has wanted to win and those that hired them hoped it would happen or expected it to happen.

If it happens, it happens, but getting ulcers over the worry of it not happening yet is ridiculous because nothing we do as fans will make us win. Not in 1892 or 2014. Hire new coaches? Had them by the bushel. Hire past MNC Coaches? We had Dietzel, Holtz, and SOS. Hire Hall of Fame Coaches? Dietzel, Holtz, SOS. Hire a coach from the former staff on the cheap? Richard Bell? Hire a coach from a football subdivision that built a program to success? Sparky Woods from App. State. How about a coach who once played for a football legend like Knute Rockne of Notre Dame? Rex Enright. Hire a coach and keep him for ages to see if that works. Rex Enright. How about a can't miss up and coming coach from the reigning MNC team? Brad Scott? Let's hire a former NFL star. Joe Morrison. We even had a good coach in Jim Carlen who had the misfortune of butting heads with a less than reputable school president. About the only thing we have not done is hire a former player to coach and that cannot promise any higher finish.

We are on the same side. Let it go. Worry about something worth worrying about or something important you can control.

Should we achieve those highest levels of winning under SOS and he someday afterwards retires, guess what? We still have no guarantee of doing it again and none of our expectations will have caused it to happen. Enjoy the present and hope for the best. That's all you can do. No one here has cracked the code of how to win the top prize in all these years. There have been "more, more, more" fans in the past, too. Funny, they did not have the answer, either.

What is wrong with it is that you cannot control what happens from behind your keyboard. Therefore, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

OTH, if you as an individual took a more lassez faire approach and recognized the reality you have no control over the outcome, you would end up being a happier person. The person who craves SEC championships and is unsatisified by anything else is not likely to have as enjoyable an experience as a person who is just going along for the ride and enjoying the artistic skill of a football team without super high expectations.

The corrollary problem for some people with unrealistically high expectations is that he becomes obsessed with his expectation and tries to impose his viewpoints on others. If others are not willing to join him in his expectation, then he begins bitching and moaning and attempts to ruin everyone else's enjoyment of life. Then, he blames the other people because they are willingly not desiring his unrealistic expectation.

That about sums it up.

Might be the Best post of the Decade.

Conf. Championships, Division Titles, Perfect Seasons, etc... THOSE
things are rare to achieve from about 95% of the Division 1A teams in
this country. They come on a (somewhat) regular basis to programs who
have built in winning traditions over several decades.

UNDERSTAND THIS:
Even though we are not one of those schools that has a tradition of
winning built over the last 50-75 years or more, and even though we
can not compete with schools who have the wealth and resources to
buy the best coaches to continue to win on a regular basis, we have just
finished our third straight 11 win season, and our second consecutive
season of a final top 10 ranking. We don't have have the history of
winning and success of Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Texas etc..
but we have begun (BEGUN) to build the strongest program that South
Carolina has EVER had in it's history. When you get to the point we are
at right now, all you can do (ALL YOU CAN DO) as a fan is to hope that
we can continue to play at this level, improve on the things we didn't
do so well last season, and do that on a consistent basis. Put yourself
in contention to win, and pray that those things you can't control fall into
place for you over the course of the season. We've done that over the
last 3-5 years, and if we continue on that course, they will fall in place
for us soon. Calling for coaching changes to MAKE it happen when you
are currently one of the best programs in the country is ridiculous.

stretch of games ? (again, not really that long ago if you're older than
15 years old). Do you remember the first four years since Spurrier took
over here ? .... We weren't a really good program, and we had some of
the worst facilities in the SEC. .... I remember all of that and even beyond
those years when Gamecock football wasn't even THAT good.

ALSO,
Do you realize how difficult it is for ANY team, even the LSUs, ALABAMAs,
GEORGIAs, OREGONs etc..... to go three consecutive seasons with
11 wins ???? I'm sorry, but for anyone here who posted that they agree
that this program has to win MORE in the next few seasons or our coach
needs to step down is an embarassment to this fanbase !! Four consecutive
seasons of Top 25 rankings with improvements each season, and you
think you're entitled to more, or our Coach needs to go ?!?!?!?!
Success is not measured by Championship trophies when you have never
had anything CLOSE To this kind of success in the entire history of your
program. .. I'm going to break the bad news to you all now... We will
drop in the rankings and season records at some point soon... maybe
even next season, but that will by no means, mean that this program
and our coach has peaked, and needs to start considering leaving.
Our AD, our Admin and our Coaches are building a winning program here
and doing one hell of an outstanding job of it, but almost demanding
better than what we've done the past 3-4 years or Coach Spurrier should
leave ?!?!? I swear there are times when I am embarassed to be called
a Gamecock fan when I see posts like this. .... Seriously.

My questions is...... with the bolded statements above:
Just how to YOU plan to make that happen, and how are you sure coach
Spurrier will step down if this doesn't happen according to YOUR timeline ?
I'd really like to know that.
Nobody ever said Spurrier should be fired or let go. I for one have NEVER been embarrassed to be a gamecock and neither should you. The OP makes the point that we all know, that every year out of the past 4 or so we have lost to teams we shouldn't have and it's most likely cost us an SEC championship. At this point we've turned that corner. Like you said we've won 11 games 3 straight years, and now it's time to get some titles.
We were hungry to become nationally relevant again and now were hungry for more, that's a good thing IMO.

On the other hand we are indeed in a great era of football right now and you'll not hear any complaints from me... One who has been through all the bad times

We actually have 3 consecutive top 10 finishes in the final poll. We keep finishing with 11 wins, it is just a matter of time that we win the SEC.

You must have someone confused for me. I've not set up any standards. I'm not craving SEC or National Championships. I'm not doing anything except trying to explain eventually people will get complacent with great seasons, but not winning anything. It may happen in 5 years, or 10 years. It might even take 20 years for this to happen, but eventually it will happen.

That is really all I've been saying this entire time...

I'm not setting up standards. I'm happy with our progress. I'm happy with Spurrier. I'm happy with what we've accomplished. Do I want more? Yes. Does Spurrier want more? Yes. Why is that so wrong? To want more?

WE can't be complacent. WE need to bring home the hardware, or heads need to roll. WE must expect more. WE need to work harder. We need to have a winners mentality. Ok...got to go play video games now.

Again, I have set 0 expectations. So I'm confused at who this picture and these comments are directed at.

If you, or anyone else think they are directed at me, please provide a quote of some sort showing where I demanded winning the National Championship/SEC championship.

Helps if people read, and not just think.
