I believe its time to clean up College Athletics. Its time to make a standard test score requirement for all athletes that are the same as incoming students no exceptions. We are doing these athletes no favors by letting them attend College and Graduating without being able to read and write. College Athletics have become a sham. I believe College Athletics will survive and thrive with true Student Athletes take the field and not kids that do not care about school. |

Probably 99.999999999999 (let's just round they to 100) I have friends that swam, golfed and played tennis for USC and didn't have this problem. It's just the 2 big revenue sports because those are the two that pull profit/ make the school money. Last edited by B-G; 01-17-2014 at 03:48 PM.. |

For basketball, they can go to Europe. But No one is forcing these kids to play sports, period. It is thier choice. Then can follow the path that is set forth, or do something else.

You're thinking about that the wrong way. If the pro's would only take college grads and those college grads had to have passing grades. Also if the college would only accept athletes that are able to pass the standardized testing, then we would not have this issue. The kids would have to learn if they want to make it to the pros or they don't..period. That should be the standard. But what has happened is greed took precedent in the coaches and administrations agenda and they began to bend the rules and we have slowly evolved to where we are today. And it's a helluva lot harder to fix now.

![]() yes i do realize that everything in life is a choice ... but if their dream is to play pro sports in america playing college ball is a huge stepping stone to that dream.. not everyone has the resources, family support, economic background etc to be as successful in academics as other people... if you ask me this is just a big indictment of americas secondary education (aka how did these guys graduate from high school if they cant read past a 4th grade level in the first place) .. but that is a whole other disscusion

![]() That was my point exactly. The last sentences of my post stated that these people have bent the rules for greed and success. That would have to stop for this to be rectified. It will be very hard if not impossible at this point. Someone would have to take a hard stance and I believe it would have to be the Pros. to say we will not accept anyone unless they have these basic educational functions.

![]() I'm pretty sure the standards are there, they just aren't enforced really. No school is going to turn down a Clowney talent because of grades when players like that will get you wins and make $ for your program/University. College football is big business. If you are going to turn down those guys and not allow them to get into a college then I think they should be allowed to go pro right after they turn 18 out of High School. Personally I think they should be allowed to go pro whenever an NFL team is willing to draft them. It's their lives and most college football fans selfishly disagree because it would hurt the product on the field in college.
