Here is all the information on last year's draft. Only 2 DE ran under 4.6....those were 4.57 and 4.58.....lots of good info.

So Mingo from LSU ran a 4.58. That's not bad at all. If Clowney runs a sub 4.5, then what? Mingo was drafted 6th overall by the Cleveland Browns.

If Clowney runs faster, and has natural raw athletic talent, and does better in the vertical which Mingo had 37.0 on, then he should go overall. Again, with all that said, Clowney is going to go number 1 over all. I just can't change my mind on it.

Which is what really drives the draft anyway: needs.
This is why most of those post-first day projections are crap shoots. The pecking order is needs driven, not past performance driven.

None of the QBs in this draft are franchise QBs. Aaron Murray maybe, but with the ACL tear he won't be up there. Clowney is going to go number one overall all.

Not to be offensive or anything, but isn't that a decision made by the NFL GM's, coaches, and/or owners? Who is to say that Johnny Manziel can't be a franchise QB, or Teddy Bridgewater, etc. etc.

I agree in the aspect that I don't believe that any of them are franchise QB's, don't get me wrong. There are a few that have a chance to be one but I don't see a majority of them becoming long-term NFL starters.

The first pick of the draft is going to be a player that a team needs. If the Texans don't trade their pick, I believe they will draft a QB. They don't need Clowney. Bob McNair realizes how good the combo of Watts/Clowney could be but he also realizes that his franchise needs a QB, and that is a position that is a life-line of an NFL team.

Lol at the thought of Aaron Murray being a franchise QB.

Yeah, who'd want the QB who broke Peyton's passing records. Before his injury, I thought he was the best prospect coming out this year. The injury obviously takes him out of the first round, but he played great this season.

Might be interesting to see if Houston might trade No 1 to Atlanta for No 5 and a second or 3rd round pick, figuring to get Manziel, Bortles, Bridgewater at 5 and have 2 early second or 3rd round picks. Atlanta is a defensive lift away from being a good team, and Clowney will make a difference from the first week. Doesn't have to be a starter. Can be a force as a split-time player. Lots of quality available early 2nd round and early 3rd to beef up other needs. 6-8 top 10 DT's likely available 2nd round. 5-7 top DE's. 6-8 top LB's. Having extra early picks might be worth getting 2nd choice among QB's when none available can likely have 1st or 2nd year impact. There's no sure performer in the bunch.

If Houston trades their #1 for Atlanta's #5, they'll get an extra #1 and a #2 as well.
Got to pay to play.

Clowney is a player you trade to get. I suspect Jax, TB, and Atlanta would all consider making an offer, but Jax might take a chance he will be available at third, especially if Houston shows interest in a deal. Atl seems most likely to me.

You just got through saying there aren't many franchise QB's, if any, in the draft, then turn around and say the Texans should pick a QB because they need one. That only makes sense if there are QB's like Andrew Luck. Why would a team take a risk on a "maybe" franchise QB when they can get the best DE to come out of college in a decade. Clowney makes their defense easily in the upper tier defenses in the league. They can get a proven QB through free agency like the QB that took over after Cutler got hurt. I'm not so sure Schaub is done. He was very servieable for several years before this year.

I think Gamecock fans have their garnet glasses on. I think they're selling Bridgewater, Manziel, and others short so that they can convince themselves that Clowney should go first overall.

If the Texans draft Clowney with the first overall without locking up a QB first via a trade or free agency, I think it's a dumb move.

Again though, the combine hasn't even taken place yet - so there's still a lot to see.

Or some 6th rd pick out of Michigan or 3rd rd pick out of Wisconsin/NSCU.

Almost certain the hardest position to predict...Manziel could be a bust or could be a great NFL QB....no one knows.

As with his comments at SEC media day, I don't see how creating grandiose expectations is beneficial. But then, I'm not Mr. Clowney ;)
