Default Re: Why no Juco CB's?

Didn't read the whole thread but last time I checked, it's not like we're going up against any All Americans at QB next year...ATM, UGA, UF, Mizzo, Auburn, UT, Clemp, all are either bringing in new QBs or aren't a passing team (Auburn)...Not sure why everyone is so worried about the CB position. If someone could englighten me and explain the need for concern I'm willing to change my opinion but until then, I'm much more worried about getting better against the run.

Always something to complain about I guess. We're going to be like 6-10 players over the sholarship limit and it's still not enough. Maybe we are trying to save room from Chalmers. Another guy people are already whining about us not offering.

I'm hopeful that the 3 returning CBs will be able to step up and contribute, because they are the most experienced, most developed, and most mature we got. Even hope Rhoades becomes another Marty Markett for us. Whatever contributions the incoming CBs can give - up to and including starting - will be gravy, IMO. It would mean that our staff didn't miss the ball on their evaluations of the above guys, and waste scholarships....
I agree we have 3 talented cb's already on the roster. Just concerned about the depth and experience at that position. That's all. Not trying to knock those 3. I expect good things from everyone of them.

Agree that getting a leg up at Havelock could be the import important thing. Scott looks good, but don't think he's a can't-miss talent and SC isn't exactly hurting for RBs at the moment.

This may be a topic for another thread but I would like to ask you a simple question since you always bring up the numbers.

Assume there are no scholarship limits to deal with, meaning, we have a limit of 85 scholarship players in August.

The football season ends and the seniors leave the program as well as the juniors that want to enter the draft. In total 17 kids leave the program.

I am assuming you would want the NSD class to be only 17 players, since that is the amount of scholarships "available"?

Handling the numbers like that means when 3-4 kids transfer after the spring semester and 2-3 don't qualify, the program will be 5-7 kids under scholarship in August?

The coaches have a grasp on this numbers situation, much better than any of us on this forum. All I am trying to say is that if the number is 22, the number is 22 and they have a plan to make it work.

People outside looking in don't care. When NSD comes all they will care about is that we had a limit of 82 and 90 scholarship commitments. They will then at that time point fingers at us and call us cheaters and unethical because they are looking for and excuse to bring down their competition and give them a bad reputation so that recruits will feel like the can not trust us and they will bring up Lorenzo Mauldin and Jordan Montgomery and every other recruit that got upset with us like Quinshad Davis and Johnathan Davis. They will point that is this numbers disparity is exactly the kind of think the NCAA and the SEC have been trying to find ways to cut down on. And whether we were in the right or not won't matter because all they would have to do to hurt us is create doubt and that is all because most people are too lazy to do research into the matter. I would must easier to just scratch us off the list and go on to the next school. And our only real defense is to point our fingers at other schools who happened to also be well oversigned.

I believe that not having any real game-experienced CB's returning will impact us the same way inexperience at LB did this past season. This isn't the ACC.

If Carson doesn't come back, then that only leaves three RB's on the roster (excluding walk-on's). We've been having issues with our backs getting hurt the last several seasons. Would be good to have Scott for depth.

2015 WR prospect Bowman still has us as a leader for him....maybe we can salvage it past Scott....

According to JC Shurburtt, losing their OL coach hurts Maryland's chances. He also said that South Carolina feels like we had a good visit and likes our position as the driving distance for an out of state option.

Interesting comments. First the visit was his third best, and then we feel like he had a good visit here.

Maryland losing their OL coach this close to signing day is huge. Might be just what we need to tilt it in our favor.

I didn't say odd, I said interesting. Darrius posted that he was committed a few days ago, but word from the staff was that it was official. Then on the same day that the latest Ford news comes out, his commitment is officially announced. Both are DL prospects, although they'd play different positions, but still....

It's got nothing to do with Ford. They were just waiting to check out some stuff with his academics.
