I'd like to see Joey in the OF personally. He is excellent at tracking fly balls and has a cannon for an arm. He only really struggles when the ball is skipping and he little time to react. Was one of the new guy supposed to come in an play 3B?

I think he will do great at 3B this season.
It probably means he is the kind of person that doesn't act well instinctively and his brain has to process what he is seeing first. So I am not sure this will be the place for him. hopefully A-Mo can help him with that.

He's projected as a 3rd Baseman at the next level, this will help his stock especially in his final year here at SC. Plus he's been coached all offseason by Brian Buscher.

He struggles with throwing and fielding. Let's put him in the hot corner.

He's the best offensive player on the team. Do you suggest we put him on the bench?

Part of Joey's problem is he thinks too much. Putting him on the hot corner cuts down on his time to think, meaning he can just react. ANd to be honest, his fielding isnt awful, and he was probably the best shortstop at the CWS a couple years ago.

I think a lot of folks would prefer to see him in outfield, which is possibly where he will end up by the end of the season anyway.

Pankake's skill set is best suited for 3B he will be fine there and it is the best spot for him

And all of these folks havent seen a single actual practice, which led the coaches to believe that Joey Pankake was a solid choice for Third Base. Do you people really think they would put him a spot where he would fail? Shortstops are arguably the best athletes on the field, he'll be fine.

I just hope he doesnt have an arrant throw and crack some kid on the playground in the head.

The coaching staff put him at third. I think they know which posistion they'd like to see the players more than any fan posting on this board. He's likely to see time in the outfield, true, but he'll take most of his reps at third more-than-likely.

If we're worried about a player defensively, we're looking at the wrong posistion. I think we should focus on Elliott Caldwell in left, if we're talking defensive. You can easily argue that Elliott is here for his offense, not his defense. If our DH (Celek/Widener/etc.) isn't living up to the standard, then I could easily see Caldwell DH, and having Gene Cone play LF.

Can he make that charging off-balanced one-handed throw to 1st all the good 3rd basemen make? That's critical for us.

I'm just saying, you'd think some of the posters on this site are trying to apply for jobs under Coach Holbrook. Posting about how much they "know" yet, the exact opposite takes place on the field. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Holbrook, Esposito, and Buscher know what options they have, and have gone with their best options at both positions...
