Which one is it?
Actually it is both. In our offense he isn't likely to ever be our starter because our running game is more power between the tackles oriented. There is more finesse in the UT running game which actually fits Scott better. I think he could have been a weapon here but not in the 25 carry per game way. Here he would be more 10-15 carries, 3-5 catches, punt/KO returns. At UT he has a better chance of being a feature back if he can outperform his competition.

So did Butch sell him on the offense or the depth chart?

The depth chart argument doesn't make much sense because there isn't much difference between the two schools.

Both. The current depth chart for this year looks much better at Tennessee than ours. Lane returns vs Davis/Wilds/Carson/Williams obviously there is a chance for PT this year at Tenn and an almost definite redshirt here. Easy sell there. The offense also not a difficult sell because the only backs that have had success in our system have been power backs not the scat back type. Again Jones runs a more finesse offense than we do and that sets up better for a scat back to take more carries. Not a difficult sell.

That still doesn't address the issue of the 2015 depth charts, when ours will look more appealing.

Secondly, was he not aware of our type of offense since we started recruiting him in 2012? It hasn't changed since then. He's had a year and a half to watch our offense. If he didn't like it, why did he consider us for so long?

I'm not buying either argument, depth chart or offense.

In another thread you said if we finished with Lammons, Green, Wideman & Scott that would be "great". So apparently losing one recruit, who is arguably the least important piece of our immediate puzzle, sent you into this death spiral? What gives? If we get these other guys this is a very good class. If we have numerous academic casualties then your worries may be founded. Right now you're working yourself up to an excessive degree. Chill, lets see how this plays out.

D-line might be a little thin, so will the corners but we still arguably the best returning offense in the east, maybe in the SEC. Our linebackers will be a year more experience. The D-tackle spot is going to be something to teams to fear again this year. I'm sure if it's needed, some of the D-tackles can slide over and play DE.

Calm down for a second and realize where the program is at. The team will be fine.

Yes we all would love to land 7-8 5 stars every year but the reality of it is that South Carolina doesn't have the pull that other programs do. Soon, very soon, we will.
The youngest team argument is just a crutch and an excuse for gamecock fans when something goes wrong. We lost 8 starters this year. That ranked somewhere in the 50's from a stat that I saw.

You're missing the point on the PT he is concerned about 2014 not 2015. If he plays well in 2014 he will play in 2015. He doesn't want to redshirt. The PT is the biggest thing that drove him to Tenn.

In 2012 we were the team recruiting him the hardest, same with 2013 so that negated the fact our offense wasn't a perfect fit. Anyone who has seen his highlight film has seen a lack of yard after contact which was troubling in our offense despite his elite burst and agility. Tenn turned up the heat and equaled our recruiting intensity and their offensive style vs ours was the other main point they got across to him that his set of skills fit them more than us. That combined with the PT for 2014 (don't bring up 2015 because he wanted to play this year so 2015 is utterly meaningless in this recruitment) was what killed us in this battle.

We lost on Scott and Prince and I'm not sure Wideman will switch.

In losing Scott, we lost a huge lead and a player from a school we had a pipeline to. How do you figure he was the "least important piece?" Sure, we'll be fine in 2014, but what about 2015? You don't recruit players just for the next season. Who else is going to run the ball in 2015? We'll have to recruit two backs in 2015, and right now we're not really in it for many of them. Meanwhile, UT has them stockpiled for the next three years.

And what if he ends up redshirting anyways in 2014 because, I don't know, UT has TWO other backs who will be competing with? (Hurd and Lane). Oh, that's right, Butch told him everything he wanted to hear so he committed to UT.

He may end up redshirting in 2014 at Tenn but he definitely would redshirt here. I guarantee you that Butch Jones is telling him that he will compete for the starting job this season. We are telling him that he will probably get redshirted and have a chance to compete in 2015. The truth is the right way to land prospects but it can cost you a few.

We are going to have issues come 2015 at RB. Carson and Williams will most likely be our only guys (not including who we get to commit in 2015). I have a feeling Smith will stay at CB. Carson is not a guy who can run the ball 15-20 times a game and Williams hasn't even taken a snap. So losing Scott does hurt big time. Tennessee now has Scott and Vickers on their team. It wouldn't surprise me if they take over the Havelock pipeline and get Bowman next year. I'm going to say that this loss is on the coaching staff. No reason to lose a kid to a 5-7 Tennessee team with 2 RB's already committed after having a huge lead for such a long time.

I agree, and not saying anything about this kid in particular, but it shows your work ethic. I understand getting early PT, but sometimes the best thing is to wait your turn or take the job from someone else. Easy way is not always the best way.

You said finishing with Wideman, Scott, Green & Lammons would be "great" Those were your words, nothing about Prince. How is Scott the least important piece of the puzzle? We have virtually nothing returning from an experience standpoint at CB & very little at DE. If you can't see how CB's & DE's are more important right now than another RB, then I can't help you. As far as who'll run the ball in 2015, could be Williams, Wilds, J Smith could move back depending on what happens at corner. If you worked yourself up hoping Prince was coming here, that's on you. He was a longshot from day one. Never even brought a family member with him on a visit.

Scott would provide depth and he would be a RS FR, so at least he would have spent some time with the team and would have learned our offense.

I prefer to use careful.....in reality we only recruit about 4 states and that area is fairly small. In about another decade after we finish in the top 10 every year, then we'll able to go after some big recruits all over the eastern third of the US. If they had only given SOS a 400k raise, we could have used the other 300k on the recruiting budget. But we need to get a lot more alum involved in annual gift giving.
