Recruit bottom half of our conference, win championships like the bottom half of our conference.

It wouldn't surprise me if they take over the Havelock pipeline and get Bowman next year. I'm going to say that this loss is on the coaching staff. No reason to lose a kid to a 5-7 Tennessee team with 2 RB's already committed after having a huge lead for such a long time.
There can be plenty of reasons any school loses a recruit. Tennessee's huge load of recruits and large number of high quality ones is puzzling. They appear to be going outside the lines in a number of ways. Who knows what's up. I don't think our coaches will change their recruiting principles or practices for any recruit (except maybe line dancing for Mom). I stay amazed at posters who seem to think a recruit can be pursued or pressured into signing. Effort isn't the issue. Unwillingness to lie or bargain may be.

I don't think it would be a dumb decision. RB's have a short shelf life in the NFL. I fully expect Wilds to have a solid year. 4-5 hundred yards in both rushing and receiving. He will be playing on Sunday's.

Plenty of reasons...the main one is he'd be 5th string and a certain RS if he came here. At UT, he might be 3rd with a chance to see lots of PT.

I think the guy made the right choice. Maybe you didn't notice, but UT has not recruited RBs very well lately. While we like our TBs big and he may never had started for us.

As far as leads...things change...maybe the guy looked around and saw greener grass elsewhere.

And why everyone is so certain Brandon Wilds declares next year is beyond me...he needs to stay healthy or he'll never get drafted and would have to fight his way as an UDFA. I expect Wilds, Williams, and Carson to all be here in '15.

Dang I come back a few hours later and whining still going on. LOL . So only the ones who "get it" want us to land every recruit and win championships? Is that still what is being said. Look we ALL wanted Prince, Scott etc... We have some really good recruits. Everyone wants as many elite players as we can get. Not just the ones like cocktails who "gets it". We just finished with 11 wins for 3rd year. Any championships? We all know we haven't. Do we have to recruit great players to continue success? WE ALL know we do. We have a good class and 2015 looks good PLUS we have lots of talent on team NOW. No team gets every player they recruit.

Maybe Scott really did just form a special bond with Gillespie? Maybe he really was blown away at the Tennessee UGA game this year (I was there and Neyland was awesome that day) and got comfortable with Knoxville. Maybe he combined those things with the fact that TN doesn't have a feature back like SC does and thought he'd like to go to TN.

It doesn't have to only be about the depth chart just because some guys on a website said that was the main factor. Scott himself said it was about the coaches and his comfort level with them.

Scott has been to Columbia far more over the years than Knoxville. We all know it has nothing to do with bonding, it's all about PT. So we'll see how it goes for him this fall.

Default Re: 2014 Recruiting Impressions

Some of you keep harping on all these recruits we've lost. We offer approximately 200 kids each year. Trying to manage that volume is extremely difficult to say the least. So we end up taking 20-25 each year, leaving 175-180 offers that end up going somewhere else. So in reality, we only get around 10-12% of all the kids we offer. Trying to write to them, talk to them and meet with them is no small task. And remember, we're only recruiting kids from 4 states with several from states like Va, Alabama, MD, Miss and PA. So when you talk about our misses, to be fair you should talk about the 175 we missed. Sometimes I'll admit it does get frustrating. But every one of these guys has their own ideas and motivations has to what's important to them. And each one of them is different. Attached below are the most important factors that recruits use to select their college. It's a really good read. By the way, nowhere does it mention how a team beat another team last year. Those kinds of things are for alum to brag about but do very little to entice kids to come to your school.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/aliciaje...uits-decision/

"A recent survey conducted by Galain of 179 college football players sought to identify the factors most important to college football recruits in making their college decision. Of the fifteen choices participants had to select from, the participants ranked a school’s academic reputation as the most important factor to their decision. The least important factor was their friends’ opinions about a school or program. Most interesting about the study’s findings, however, is the important role that a campus’ facilities play to a recruit’s decision. A recruit’s opinion of a team’s playing facilities ranked as the fourth most important factor, while campus living facilities and team facilities ranked sixth and eighth, respectively."

"Major football programs and their associated athletic departments nationwide are arguably picking up on this trend. At least 24 BCS football programs are currently engaged in or recently completed construction projects aimed at benefiting their football programs. The low-end of these projects include locker room upgrades, like those taking place at Syracuse to the tune of $5 million. The high-end of the spectrum sees projects like Arizona‘s $378 million expansion to its north end zone stadium area."

"Understanding the mind of a 17-year-old is an elusive concept. What do they respond to? What motivates them? Research shows that more and more student-athletes are drawn to their choice because of how it makes them feel. We try to understand that framework of choice and the mindset that 17-year-old brings to a visit. We then listen very carefully to the university to understand what makes them distinctive. We want a recruit’s visit to come to life in a way that creates a memory,” Roberson noted."

All I care is that we coach up the ones that come here and make sure they represent the school in a positive way and leave the program better than when they stepped on campus. I have faith in our staffs ability to find the right pieces for our first ever SEC championship team. I think we have some future team leaders in this class we have now. It should be fun to see who we get to fill these spots where players our staff were working decided their heart was elsewhere. Good Luck to them. Especially to the ones who chose another SEC school. They are gonna need it.

Is Wilds a redshirt junior this year? So possibly, in '15, we could have Williams, Wilds, and Carson correct? That makes me feel a little bit better about our running back situation.

There are tons of running backs available every year and it's one if the easiest positions to transition to from high school to college. I don't see what the fuss is about besides losing a lead.
