Internet service? Fine.

Cable television? Why do people still pay for this?

Seriously folks, there are ways to get ESPN, and for everything else, gotta stream it. I'm surprised these clowns are still in business. Just say no.

Comcast: No promise that prices “will go down or even increase less rapidly”

Quote:
When Comcast announced its proposed acquisition of Time Warner Cable, it said the merger would bring significant cost savings and efficiencies that would "ultimately benefit customers."
But Comcast doesn't expect these savings to bring price decreases, or even cause prices to rise less rapidly.
Further Reading

Comcast lists all the ways a merger with Time Warner is “pro-consumer”

The "highly competitive" US Internet market will only get better, Comcast said.
"The impact on customer bills is always hard to quantify. We're certainly not promising that customer bills are going to go down or even increase less rapidly," Comcast Executive VP David Cohen said in a conference call today in response to a question on price. "Frankly, most of the factors that go into customer bills are factors beyond our control." Cohen didn't elaborate on those "factors beyond our control," but he said the promised benefits to consumers will come via "quality of service, by quality of offerings, by technological innovations." Finally, Cohen said, "I don't believe there's any way to argue that [consumers are] going to be hurt from a price perspective as a result of this transaction." Presumably then, prices would continue to take their natural path regardless of whether the transaction is approved by US regulatory authorities.

They haven't been part of TWC in over a decade. This, fortunately, won't affect you at all.

Bright House Networks are owned by TWC but they are just managed independently. They were talking about this on CNBC today how this is actually terrible for Bright House as they will lose their ability to manage their own part of the network if this deal goes through because of the way the original contract deal that was done in 2003 was written.

Wrong. While TWC negotiates carriage on behalf of BH it no longer owns any of it. That split happened in 2013. I had BH during that time. BH is now owned by Advance Publications and is headquartered in Syracuse, NY.

Not according to CNBC.
Quote:
Advance/Newhouse and Time Warner (Bright House Networks spin off)

Some of the regional cable system clusters operated by Time Warner Cable are owned by the Time Warner Entertainment - Advance/Newhouse Partnership (TWEAN). In 2002, Advance/Newhouse Communications, unhappy with some of the operating policies of Time Warner Cable in the AOL Time Warner era, forced a restructuring of the TWEAN partnership such that Advance/Newhouse would actively manage and operate a portion of the jointly owned cable systems equal to their percentage of equity. Under this arrangement, Advance/Newhouse enjoys the proceeds of their actively managed systems rather than simply a percentage of the partnership's total earnings. The majority of the affected systems are in the Tampa and Orlando markets under the Bright House Networks brand.
The value of this deal is that it allows Advance/Newhouse to more directly control their cable investments without having to completely unravel the TWEAN partnership, which does bring some benefits via Time Warner's development and purchasing clout.

This is what the market would look like post merger.

T-W has made a lot of enemies over the years including me. Unfortunately, they are the only service available for internet in some places.

What still amazes me about cable and dish providers, is their networks are still loaded with commercials....so we are essential paying to watch ads, unless you have a work around. This is the same for Sirrius....they still have DJs running their mouths on some of the channels...I'm not paying for a DJ....I just want to hear music. There are too many other work arounds for this as well.

I dumped T-W after CFB season and am using their internet only while streaming my Netflix via my laptop into my HD TV. While I love shows like the History channel, Myth Busters, etc....I'm just sick of commercials...especially if I'm paying for it.

I personally hope T-W and Comcast implode....they have been raking people over the coals for years...like Hollywood video...I hope they go away.
