I think we begin to see the need to recruit VERY well in the state of North Carolina for the foreseeable future now. GA is becoming harder for us, Florida State has been on the rise and is currently on the mountain top, while Florida's campus and assets will always draw recruits. Sure, we'll still get guys from GA and FLA every cycle, but it is getting decidedly harder.

Meanwhile, North Carolina represents a tremendous opportunity for talent in a state without an SEC team where we can sell staying in the Carolinas. Maybe I am overreacting, but I don't think so. Deke Adams is about to become one of the most important hires we have made in a long time.

I justwonder how deep his relationships run and how well he knows the state.

We was at NC A&T in '06 and '07 then at UNC in '12. 3 years over a 7 yr period in NC doesn't make me too bullish on his ability as an operative in that state.

However, I do agree with your point aout NC. There is no reason that we should not have that state locked down.

Pruitt already confirmed Georgia switching to a 4-3 this year....they are trying to get some of their OLB to learn the DE position. I don't think they will be able to make the transition very quickly with their current roster. With a new QB for 2014, I think they are just making the transition this year because they weren't going to compete for a SEC east title this year anyway.

Well other than the fact that the kids may have grown up watching media coverage of UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake or East Carolina.

UT landed one good recruiting class. They're off to a good start for 2015, but so was Ole Miss after their monster class in 2013. I don't think we can crown UT as "back" just yet. FSU was never really "down" in terms of recruiting, they just had poor on-field performances during Bowden's twilight. Miami may be on the uptick, but if they keep putting together mediocre-to-middling seasons they'll fall back quickly. They'll always have a certain cache w/ South Florida kids, though.

you can't lock down a state outside your home state.....just hope to pick up 3-4 good players every year.

According to the CB, these are the players we lead for at this time:
Blackshear, Mark Fields, Preston Williams, Key, Pittman, Veal, Octavis Johnson, Hatton, Michael Bowman, Neal, Noah Green, Giella, Kevin Johnson, Desmond Cain, Austin Barnes, Jerad Washington, DJ Jones.

McGirt is 50-50 with Duke.....and Chalmers more than likely will pick Carolina.
There are 7 other players that we are doing well with but we don't have over 50%, but neither do other schools.....Fitzpatrick, Christian, Love, Baily, Ty'son Williams, Clemons, and Mike Hughes.

That's 27 players that we are in reasonable shape with and there many others that we have contacted to visit. For example, there are 4 really good players from the Richmond area that like us. Let's see who comes to our Junior day in March and that should give us an expectation of most of the guys we are going after.....not all, but most. And we may pick up another JUCO or two.

Wonder if how good our woman's track team is puts us out of reach with this guy.

c'este la vie. Stuff like that can change, especially going from high school to college. Hopefully we change his mind though, would be nice to get a stellar WR class this coming year.

The next few years are crucial.
The state is going through one of its lulls where top talent is hard to come by.
We had our wave with Gilmore, Jeffery, Lattimore, Clowney and the mix....now there are slim pickens in the state the next few years it looks like.

As long as Ward is here, we will have a presence in metro-Atlanta. Florida will be tougher to recruit in with FSU back on top, and Florida and Miami will still get their guys with UCF, USF, FIU and FAU battling for the rest, along with other schools trying to cherry pick.

I agree we need to get a bigger presence in NC, and maybe Deke can do that.
Also, I like how Mangus has gotten us a presence in the Northeast, especially in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and maybe Botkin can swipe a few under the radar kids from Alabama (Stallworth and Walton come to mind).

We will be okay on recruiting, Grab the best you can in state, and cherry pick your needs in your border states and pipelines.

I'm really hoping for a BAW for this class. A guy who commits early and loves the program and recruits his ass off for our program and tries to get the best players to come join him. We need that guy to go ahead and commit.

What about Blackshear? Dude has been comitted for a while and is a 5* guy. He should go ahead and show some leadership by helping out with the recruiting.

(He may already be busting his rear helping with recruiting and I'm just not aware of it)

We sure are putting out a lot of offers to the JUCOs. We seem to be in very favorable position for all of them. I love getting top tier talent, but I hope it doesn't put us into a bind in future classes.

LB - Davon Durant
DE - Marquavius Lewis
DT - DJ Jones
OT - Paris Palmer

Dante Sawyer as well. He entered JUCO a semester early so that he could get the SEC mandatory 3 semesters in and could enroll at USC in this class. By 247's JUCO player rankings we are very much in it with the #2 (Lewis), #3 (Jones), #5 (Sawyer), #8 (Durant), and #10 (Palmer) players in the country. If there was ever a year to have a massive JUCO haul this would be the year for us.
