"In the end, the best team in the country came out on top as UCLA won the College World Series, giving the Pac 12 its second straight national champion."

Am I missing something here or does this reporter not know what they are talking about?

UCLA won in 2013, Arizona beat us in final in 2012, and we won 2011 and 2010.

The Favorites
1. Cal State Fullerton – The Titans flexed their muscles in Eugene, sweeping Oregon and solidifying a spot as one of the best teams in the country.

2. Florida State – It was a big series win for the Seminoles, opening the ACC season against Miami. The Noles continue to look like a team destined for Omaha.

3. LSU – In another ho-hum non-conference series, the Tigers took care of business against Yale. It will be hard to get a great read on LSU until two weeks from now against Vanderbilt.

4. North Carolina State – Carlos Rodon took his first loss of the season in a matchup with UCLA’s Grant Watson, but the Wolfpack rolled through the rest of the week unscathed. ACC competition awaits.

5. Oregon State – The Beavers still haven’t been challenged, and likely won’t be until late March.

6. South Carolina – The sweep of Clemson solidifies the Gamecocks’ spot in this list. It looks like they’re primed for another big run in 2014.

7. Vanderbilt – The Commodores swept a struggling Stanford team and continue to impress early this season.

8. Virginia – I’m slower to jump on the Cavalier bandwagon than a lot, and still hesitant until the bulk of the ACC schedule starts late this month.

On The Rise
2. College of Charleston – After an impressive start, the schedule has softened but the quality of play has not. The Cougars have positioned well early for a good postseason seed should they continue to win.

Falling…
Clemson – After a sweep at the hands of South Carolina, the Tigers lost another to Western Carolina and will have to turn things around quickly to avoid a major slide.

The Favorites

1. Cal State Fullerton – I’m keeping the Titans in the favorite category this week, but they’re certainly on overrated watch. Losing two games to Baylor over the weekend hurts.

2. Florida State – The Noles picked up an ACC series win over Maryland, but it wasn’t easy. It took a Sunday win to secure the series. This weekend’s visit by the Wolfpack looms large.

3. LSU – The Tigers will get their first real test this weekend when they travel to Vanderbilt. It was a relatively easy week leading up to the big series.

4. North Carolina State – The Wolfpack is rolling after welcoming Notre Dame to the ACC with a sweep. A trip to Tallahassee this weekend will help decide which team is the favorite to win the conference.

5. Oregon State – Northern Illinois was no match for the Oregon State pitching. The Beavers open Pac 12 play with a trip to Utah this coming weekend.

6. South Carolina – South Carolina has rocketed to the top of the polls after a perfect 16-0 start. Mississippi comes to town this weekend in what could be a big statement for either squad.

7. Vanderbilt – The Commodores had another perfect week. The Bayou Bengals come to town this weekend, though, which should be a great series.

8. Virginia – Virginia struggled to score runs against Duke this past weekend, playing three one-run games. Luckily for the Cavaliers, they won two of those games.

Today starts some very big weekends of baseball for the SEC and college baseball. Two SEC games will match up SC against Ole Miss and LSU against Vandy. All 4 SEC teams are in the top 15 of the country and one or two of them most likely will be in Omaha this year.

I'm picking USC and Vandy to come out on top. That said, USC and Ole Miss have played a very similar strength of schedule while Vandy has taken on the likes of Long Beach State and Stanford while LSU has played a less than mediocre schedule.

Its going to be fun......Play Ball!!!!!!!!
