TJ Had a good practice today. Lot of energy and was all over the field. I'm not as
nervous about our secondary as I was a few weeks ago. Looks like the guys we
have will be fine, and we will have Green and Smith and Harris Jr joining them this
fall. We should be fine everywhere in our secondary when the season starts.

Thanks for all you do for Cockytalk. I want to see how Deon Green do with another year after his acl surgery with him weighting almost a 100 lb more than Rico

Thanks Spurt! No surprise that the defense dominated the practice, they usually do for the first couple. It's a lot tougher knocking the rust off on offense so I would expect to see them perform much better by next week.

That usually is the case, but this past fall the offense had its best showing
coming out of the gates looking a lot better than the defense. That continued
through most of the fall practices. Of course it was mainly because of our
very young LB core which looked very quick during those drills, but the
offense was lead by Both Shaw and Thompson who had pretty much taken
over the leadership of the offense AND the team at that time. Also had
team leaders like Bruce Ellington and Ronald Patrick on the offense.

We should have a very solid offense again this year with Dylan back, and
Mike Davis coming off a VERY Good season and should become one of the
leaders of the Offense. The Receivers should be solid with Byrd and Jones
as senior leaders and Roland coming off his best year last year. With the
defense looking dominant yesterday, that tells me that they have made a
big stride in experience and talent when they can take over the practice from
a good solid offense based on what we have now.....AND, they did that
without Sharrod Golightly, Bryson Williams, and Kaiwan Lewis being with the
team right now......guys that we are counting on as Defensive leaders this year.

The reason I don't put a lot about the O/line or D/line in the early practice
reports is because there's really not a lot you can go on to determine how
they look until they put on full pads and go at it full speed. The first real
test of how the guys in the trenches look will be tomorrow morning when
they scrimmage ... they usually don't work out in full pads the day before
a scrimmage, so I'm guessing this afternoon they'll be in shorts and shirts
or again in Shells.
Unfortunately, I'll be in the upstate tomorrow morning and I won't get to see
the scrimmage.

I can tell you that during position drills, Deke was working overtime with
Lamin, Ced Cooper and Mason Harris on their technique. I think they want
to get these guys as far along as possible in the short amount of time they
have to practice this spring.

Spurt, Last year you stood firmly on Shaw as lead QB. Dylan was good at backup QB true.In your opinion do you think Dylan is up to carring the load this year, or are we to expect dual QB again this year. Iam sure there will be someone as relief QB , who do you think will fill that spot. Is it to early to tell ?

Some people don't like to see fights erupt at practice, especially if it happens
often. To me, It's always been a sign of guys fighting for territory, and
wanting to get going as quickly as possible. It's a good thing in my opinion
to see a few little flair ups at times as long as the players get it out of their
systems quick, and get back to business. It also fires up the sides (offense
and defense) because they want to "rally behind their guy" in the plays that
follow the fight.

I did notice that there were some other exchanges of words between Gurley
and Cooper for several more plays after the skirmish. At one point about
four / five plays later. Gurley came all the way from deep in the secondary
after the play was stopped and Coop was heading back to the huddle, and
got up close to Pharoh and said something to him that made them stare
each other down for a couple of seconds. ... If that continues through the
next few practices then there may be something off the field between these
two that needs to be dealt with. You don't see it carry through more than a
play or two, and the majority of times if you watch the guys after practice
is over, the two that fought will be walking off the field together laughing.

I think the real battle is going to be between Mitch and Noso for who backs
up Dylan. DT didn't have a "great" practice yesterday, but he was the class
of the group, and I don't see that changing over the summer and into fall.
I'm still convinced that Connor Mitch is the guy who will take over when
Thompson is gone at the end of the season. Much stronger arm and better
"pocket presence" than Noso. Still needs some polish here and there, but
he just appears to be the "Heir apparent" for the leadership role on offense.

Dylan is the clear cut leader, and he's paid his dues and deserves to start
based on his record as a starter when Shaw was injured, and for what he's
done when Shaw wasn't doing his best and got into the games. I think Dylan
gives us the best shot at winning. He's a guy that I would love to see take his
already impressive body of work up another notch and finish this season the
way Connor closed his career out last year.

REally interested to see what Matulis can give us.
I know our OT spots are pretty much locked down, but I heard Matulis was working a little at RG.
A story came out that Elliott really likes what he sees from him this year, and he is back up over 300 pounds...said he plays nasty and is a monster.

Could we see him at RG with so much youth vying for the position (Rogers looks like the RT of the future, and I don't think Park is ready, and Sport has very little playing time).

Matulis could be the guy to solidify the RG spot...has experience and was pretty good from what I remember of him playing.
