Bo is so big, I honestly think he could be a project TE or even w a 5th OT ....If he stayed healthy, I seriously think he could become a player-just not a QB for us.

So what ever happened with him? Did he go JUCO, commit somewhere else?

Bo Baldwin

The much talked about career of South Aiken QB Bo Baldwin could be over.

I find this disappointing.

Well looks like there are two relatively immobile qb's in the pipeline. (Scarnecchia and Mitch)

I hope this works out the way most of you want (some kind of pro set playing "real football" where the qb stays in the pocket, just like Nick Saban).

None of that Gus Malzahn trickeration. They'll catch up with that.

Any decade now.

I'll go out on a limb though. This is just a hunch, but my guess is that a more mobile qb is recruited this year. We'll have to wait and see but it wouldn't surprise me if neither Mitch nor Scarnecchia never win the starting job here.

We don't have a mobile QB this year so you won't have to wait long to be disappointed if that's what your looking for.

I think we'll be fine though with Dylan Thompson/Pharoah Cooper

Wow. After reading your post, I'm convinced you're the kind of person who may subconsciously pull for the gamecocks to fail if a pro-style QB is starting just so you might be able to say, "I told you so." Good job with that, and I hope you become well-acquainted with Preparation H soon.

Dylan moves pretty good. I think we'll be surprised how able he is in the QB option plays. It won't be a CS, but he can run.

Someone want to fill me in on wth is going on? We pull a grey shirt offer from a SC QB recruit and all of a sudden our qb depth sucks? What gives? We look good at QB and if the coaches feel like we would be better off looking elsewhere, then who are some of you to question that? GA has done a great job evaluating qb's lately, I trust his judgement.

Actually I have a long memory.

It wasn't too long ago that we looked like a Chinese fire drill on offense, with an occasional good game, and a general inability to move the ball.

And a real problem with running the ball, particularly against good defenses.

I saw qb's, a string of them: Mitchell, Beecher, Smelley. All looked hopelessly confused at times, and the story is the same with the wideouts.

Go back. Go back to the period before Elliott and Mangus came on board, when we didn't run the read option. You can find video on youtube, though the games I'm talking about are the ones we want to forget.

You think all that is because we just got a string of "bad" qb's? I'm still not sure what Mitchell had upstairs, but he definitely had the arm and physical tools to put up numbers in that offense.

And if he had been at Florida in the late 90's maybe we could put his name in place of Jesse Palmer for example. But he wasn't at Florida. He didn't have a revolving door of future NFL players at wideout, primo talent on the OL (for the conference), and a rb situation similar to the wideouts.

He was here, with pretty much average to below average SEC talent at those positions.

Anyway I've made this point before. Probably in this very thread, but I'm not backtracking to find it.

But let me ask you this. Auburn and Malzahn are recruiting very well. This is the golden age of our recruiting, and we are not doing as well as they are. And we do a good job of evaluating players, but nothing I've seen says they do any less of a job.

Given that, do you think Malzahn would have a better chance of beating Alabama and LSU with a pro set? As good a job as they are doing recruiting, those two schools are getting better players.

If you are not going to use schemes to deal with a talent disparity, you are going to line up and and purely let who has the better athletes win... well you are doing just what Saban wants you to.

Okay, too long already. But if we want to do more than be a third or lower finisher in the east every year, I think we have to avoid going back to a system that doesn't have a qb as a featured runner.

Because unless we get a mega recruiter on board like James Franklin or Nick Saban, we are not going to get better talent than Georgia or Florida. And it would take a bad recruiter at both locations (which happens occasionally) to do that.

I think must of us shut the curtin on your beam of sun after your previous post. 33-6 says we are fine and headed in the right direction still.

I did, 33-6. The proof is in the pudding. The results on the field show the direction we are going in is correct. Dylan has already shown that a drop back passing QB will win here as well.

Yeah, kinda hard to take any naysayer serious right now with the success we have had the past 3 years.

I think Mitch is our QB of the future (just not this year).

Also, we now have a stable of RB's that we didn't have years ago when we were running a more traditional type of offense. We also didn't have the OL we have now either. Different times and much better personnel.

We will never ditch the QB having the opportunity to run the ball. In fact I think you will see Cooper at QB a good bit this year (like Malzahn) and wouldn't be surprised if you see Googer or Davidson also get looks there in the future as they both played QB in high school.
