Default Amazing Tits

Tits are a large family of small birds which appear over the entire Northern Hemisphere and parts of Africa. Sometimes referred to as "titmice" their name comes from the old-English name for birds, mase, and the word for small, tit. They can also be referred to as chickadees, or titmice.

They are extremely adaptable and rival the corvids and parrots in terms of intelligence.

This is the Great Tit. It's habitat stretches from Europe to Africa, into Asia and down to Indonesia. Although introduced to Cincinnati in the 1870's the birds failed to thrive in Ohio and aren't found in North America. This amazing tit has over 40 calls in its vocabulary, and will often mimic multiple birds to make its area seem more densely populated than it actually is, discouraging competition.

Closer to home is the Carolina Chickadee. This amazing bird can place itself in a hibernation-like state called a torpor. While in a torpor the Carolina Chickadee will be unresponsive and may seem dead. This allows them to conserve energy during very cold winters. So if you see a tit that doesn't move at all, don't assume it's dead!

This is the Black Crested Tit, native to India, Burma, and Nepal. It's especially suited for high altitudes and cold weather, making it one of the coldest tits in the world. An amazing tit indeed!

This is the Palawan Tit. Although it sounds like a character from Star Wars, this tit is actually a resident of the Philippines. It's been known to join flocks of other birds for safety and feeding. Amazing!

This is the Southern Black Tit. Although the name suggests something that might be found in several bars throughout the south, this tit is actually found throughout Africa. These tits have smaller broods than other tits, and as such the parents are fiercely protective. The mother is even known to mimic venomous snakes in order to protect the nest. A tit pretending to be a snake! Amazing!

This is the Tufted Titmouse. You might recognize it, as it is native to the southeastern United States. You also might recognize it due to some very interesting behavior. The Tufted Titmouse is incredibly curious, and has been known to perch on windowsills to observe the people inside. So if you see an amazing pair of tits starting at you from your window, it's probably a pair of Tufted Titmice!

There are many other fascinating facts about tits, be sure to research more about them to learn more. A quick Google search for 'Amazing Tits' will return a wealth of information!

Well, that's all for now, I hope you enjoyed my gallery of Amazing Tits!
