Spurrier seems more and more comfortable recruiting players that are not in our pipeline. Thats for sure.

Yeah, seems to be a Justice Cunningham or Patrick Dimarco kind of player.

Exactly. We don't pass a lot to our TE's and we seem to have had plenty of quality guys there to throw to. We're probably looking more for a 'blue collar' TE who can block well and catch when we need him to. We've become more of a running team and could use another good blocking FB/TE like Pat DiMarco. He did a great job opening holes for Marcus

I agree.
And I think Markaway and Redmond both fill that role.

he is a really good blocker and can catch well.....but he doesn't have a lot of speed which probably explains his offer list.

Looks pretty good on film to me. Balanced TE that runs well and plays both sides of the ball in hs. Seems like he is pretty tough too. Most TEs we get are 3 star guys so no thing surprising here.

He has all the tools and look of a tight end. As a rising HS SR, he may grow some and his weight and strength should pick up. Damn the stars, this kid just needs some coaching.

This is one of the first we've got from the midwest in a while. We were going after those 2 linemen in KS last year, but it didn't work out. Usually if we get someone out of the mid west they are from a JUCO, like Byron. I wonder if mizzzzou will put Kyle on their target board now that he committed to another SEC school?

Sounds like Iowa was pursuing him too. The Hawkeyes like smart, physical kids who play hard, so I bet that is what we are getting.

Three days after landing one of the top quarterbacks in the country, South Carolina landed him a target Sunday night when three-star tight end Kyle Markway (Saint Louis, Mo./St. John Vianney) announced a commitment to the Gamecocks on Twitter.

"I have officially committed to the University of South Carolina!" Markway said. "So excited to join the Gamecock family and win a national championship!"

The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder chose the Gamecocks over Iowa, Illinois, Memphis and Western Kentucky.

"I chose them because I felt more comfortable there then any other college I visited," Markway said. "The opportunities they are giving me are hard to pass up, like playing early in the SEC and playing under a head coach like (Steve) Spurrier. I feel it's a great college to be at these days and I feel they are on the move and have a chance to win a national championship soon! I love everything about it!"

Markway was recruited to the Gamecocks by wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr., who also serves as the Gamecocks' passing game coordinator and recruiting coordinator.

Markway, who was at one time considered a lean to Iowa, has a rating of 0.8322 in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, and is ranked the No. 36 tight end in the country.

Markway is the Gamecocks' eighth commitment to the 2015 class after landing four-star quarterback Lorenzo Nunez on Thursday.
Gotta love JR.

USC has reached into rare territory for commitment number nine for their 2015 class. TE Kyle Markway (6-4 219) of St. Louis, MO announced a commitment to the Gamecocks Sunday night.
“I have officially committed to the University of South Carolina! So excited to join the Gamecock family and win a national championship!” is what Markway wrote on his Twitter page.
Markway made an unofficial visit to USC last month for the spring game weekend and that visit started the ball rolling in the Gamecocks’ favor.
“It was the most comfortable I have felt at a school I have visited,” Markway said Sunday night. “The opportunities they have there are endless. To be able to play under head coach Steve Spurrier and to play in a program like South Carolina is a dream come true. There new dorms for the players are going to be really nice also. And their new facilities were all very cool and made me want to commit even more.”
Markway also had offers from Iowa, Indiana, Western Kentucky, Illinois and Memphis and said the decision came down to the Gamecocks and the Hawkeyes.
Last season Markway had 28 catches for 254 yards and 1 touchdowns. He also plays defensive end and had 64 tackles with 16 for loss and 7 sacks as a junior.
“I will be playing early they have told me,’ he said. “They said they will see how I develop to determine how they will use me. I’m thinking just as a traditional tight end who can do it all.
