Guys like Mike Davis and Todd Gurley II should go after their junior years. 54th or 154th pick is better than another year of wear on a running back's body.

The draft hasn't been kind to RBs as of late. This year proved it again. But I agree, they get a lot of wear and tear on their bodies.

Which 3? I disagree (obviously) that it will be that few. I don't think all of them will, but more than 3. (Mike Davis is one. 2 to go.)

Yea Byrd has speed but he's about 5-8 170 soaking wet.
Ace and Bruce were def better than him in college and outside of 40 time have better measurables and were taken in the 4th round.
He also is coming off a knee injury too.

Roland is not getting drafted.. not sure where that idea came from.

Some of our fans forget just how many players are out there in college football.

With the way the RB position is treated now, Shell will likely be picked higher than Mike Davis. Not a knock on Davis, but more to the climate of the decline in teams investing early in college RBs. He would have to be a legit Heisman finalist to go in the first three rounds.

It's only a matter of time until running backs return to the first round. Next year very well maybe the year we see two or three drafted first because of the elite talent at the position.

CBS Sports has released their top 100 prospects for the 2015 draft and they included draft eligible juniors and only two SC guys made the list. Mike Davis is number 24 and AJ Cann is 94. I'm sure there can be plenty of debate on this bit those are the only guys they peg as elite next level talent.

They can only pick 100 guys, so 1 out of 50 isn't terrible. Surely others will get late round looks. We'll have a few tackles with size and strength, and a few of our guys will break out this year: Roland, Brison etc...

Good to know. There are 250+ picks every year, so some other guys may get a shot depending on their production in 2014.

Cann was actually who I meant to say earlier.. .He will get drafted. Oline is big priority in the NFL.

My husband's ex-wife's husband played in the NFL for ten years and won a superbowl ring with the Giants.

His retirement, when he finally gets it with the NFL is only $1200 a month.

Because he wasn't a big name player and only earned the union minimum, he certainly didn't come out of the NFL a millionaire. At 32, he had a busted up body and a small nest egg. His body has aged a decade before him. I don't think he thinks the NFL was worth it.

His degree did more for his future than the NFL did.

Not to say u r neccesarily wrong but how can you state such w certainty? First we just can't know, no crystal balls either way. secondly we have had examples of guys who were mid level projections staying and improving.
Melvin, by staying, didn't grow his arms longer or discriminate himself as any more or less of a "twieener" he didn't get any taller,or bigger, or faster or stronger or smarter. he simply continued what he had been doing for several yrs, working to better himself in hopes, and belief, it may pay off. Justice Cunningham is a good example of these guys though one not SEEN to b as developed. Pro undrafted had he gone, like these guys turned out to be. And maybe no free agent offer given he may not have been even as far along as the two in discussion. BUT he returned, continued to develop, albiet slowly, his skill set. He got drafted, low yes but did and from all accounts continues to develop.
Why do u say these guys could not have in the least developed thier skill set whether or not they were able to improve thier physical set ?

I was thinking yesterday if Sutton, Quarles, and Hampton returned for their Senior seasons then our D would be stacked!! Too bad I know.
it is allowed in hockey and baseball. now they have 30 round drafts which allow a team to lay claim with less risk should the player return (still can't have had agents, taken $$ etc.). Still as I understand it presents at least as many problems as it solves. If a player doesn't take the steps to remove the option of returning ( agent etc.) then typically he is going to drop like a stone in the draft even in sports where draft is far less important than it is in FB or Basketball. It becomes self fullfilling. Dropping lessens the payoff for going pro and thus makes it more likely the player will not go pro and thus decreases the value of risking a pic on him thus dropping him still lower and around it goes.
