I guess the coaches feel real good about Samuel, Davidson and Googer, and I'm sure the emergence of Pharoh had something to do with Jody's decison.
Why do people keep mentioning Cooper as such a major part of the receiving corps based on what he did last year? He made some great plays on offense, but how many of those were as an actual WR? He had a total of 3 catches for 54 yards and one TD. His average was a little higher than Whitehurst's but Whitehurst's total numbers (4 for 66 and two TDs) are actually a little better than Cooper's.

Because some players are just big play makers. Pharoh is that guy.

He will be starting this year at a receiver spot that gets a lot of targets. I think its pretty logical to say that he is going to have a nice season barring injury.

I understand what both of you guys are saying, but the fact of the matter is that as a college WR, Cooper is still virtually untested, so the fact he made good plays on offense in other roles doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be a major factor as a receiver.

Please realize me mentioning and asking about this in no way implies I think the young man is going to be a bust or anything, but it seems a lot of the same people who are writing off other receivers for their lack of production in limited chances are also sort of anointing Cooper as the next great WR even though he's just as unproven at that position.

does it not disturb anyone how may of these transfers were here two yrs or less before either we gave up on them and or they on us. How does B King, an OL completing his RS, leave after the first yr???
The odd thing about competition is no matter what you have a winner and a loser, I hate to use loser in this discussion but when you bring in 20-25 players with talent on a consistent basis and only 22-30 get real time you are going to have casualties who see the writing on the wall early. Some 3* or 4* players will find it hard to adjust to not being the star, the man and decide to go become a big fish in a small pond. Some will work harder to be the man and just not be talented enough on that team so they transfer to be the man. The elite just work hard as no matter what they think they are the man so they always work hard and will tell you they just need a chance or one more chance IMO

The difference is Cooper has not shown a lack of production in his limited chances, he has excelled every chance he has been given so the logical outcome is when he is given a chance to shine on a big stage he will shine as he has proven in his limited chances, 3 catches for a 18ypc avg(2nd on the team just behind Roland) and a TD as well as his other roles.

He couldn't catch the football is a wrong statement and a hyperbole. Obviously the kid can catch or he wouldn't of been a highly recruited kid and stuck around for 2 years.

He couldn't catch the football consistently is a more accurate statement. People like to make these definite and broad statements now a days for whatever reason.

Now take into consideration when those opportunities came (opponent, score, etc.) and compare it to other guys with limited production. How do the numbers compare? I honestly don't know.

Also, sorry for the small hijacking of the thread. I hate to see Fuller leave, and I wonder if there was a larger issue (during recruitment or coaching while here) that played a part in the results from him and his ultimate decision.

Coaches sit down with these kids and have honest discussions about their performance, the roster and the coach's expectations for the upcoming season. So based on these discussions, some kids see that it will be very difficult to get playing opportunity barring a significant injury or significant improvement from what they have produced in practice thus far. They see "the writing on the wall" and make a change. Best of luck to Jody. Sometimes a change in scenery does wonders for athletes too. I hope that is the case for him.

I had high hopes for him because he was really good. The guy is talented enough to be a starter here, problem is that you can say that about all our WRs pretty much and we are overloaded. Hopefully all these wr tranfers indicate that we expect Bryd to be ready to go soon.

In contrast to Bruce or Alshon, the original description might be reasonably accurate. And few recruiting video clips show the drops...it's not hard to overrate someone if all we see is their good stuff.

Hope he does well at his next stop and finishes his education.

A lot of people's hands would look bad in contrast to Alshon.

It's still a stretch to say he can't catch a football. I have seen him and he has the ability to catch a football.
