I think it is a lot more likely you see even more So and Jr leftovers from Dooley exit the program so we can sign more players than us dropping recruits.

That's quite possible. But if Richmond called Jones in 2 weeks & told him UT had moved down from first on the list , or been eliminated altogether, because they already had X number of tackles committed, then what?

Clark is an out-of-state kid. He is much more disposable than a player like Richmond.

UT already has two OT's committed, they are still recruiting Richmond at the very least. If Clark commits now & Richmond commits say 2 months from now that would be 4 with one of those seemingly a low priority.

With the high needs at multiple positions & large number of offers out there I could easily see a situation where the OL position coach calls Clark in a couple of months & tells him something along the lines of "we will honor your commitment to us but feel you might be a better fit somewhere else".

That happens more than some people realize but it's rarely reported like that because it's really not advantageous to the recruit to admit that he was dropped or encouraged to move along by the team he's committed to.

Rumors are that Richmond is already a silent just waiting to announce on the 9th of September to honor his fallen friend (Butch tells players to pick a day that is special to them to commit). So I don't think he is a problem.

We had a couple other tackles like St. Louis from Florida that were higher on our board but it is pretty obvious we aren't going to get them so I think that is why we are moving on Clark now.

I think we want to take 4 or 5 linemen that includes at least 3 T's.

Oh I have no idea about that...but I don't think Clark cares how many we bring in as long as he has a spot at TN, I think he would take it.

He grew up a TN fan going to games with his dad, this isn't a normal out of state recruitment. His dad also play at Emory and Henry with the father of Coleman Thomas (from VA as well) an Early Enrollee at T that is going to start for us this fall as a true freshman.

This sucks. Vols stole this one when it looked like we were a favorite.

I understand but I just highly doubt that Jones would tell an OT recruit that another guy rated higher than him is a silent when he already has 2 other OT's committed in this class. Maybe that's just me & it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

I get it about him wanting to be a Vol too. It's just that playing time & getting on the field quickly often trumps everything else when these guys have multiple FBS offers.

If I were a betting man, I'd wager he ends up at UT. I just wouldn't bet the farm.

One thing is, and has been, crystal clear. Butch Jones recruits his azz off & doesn't mind that grey area at all. Were he coaching at my school, I got zero problem with that.

In the situation we are coming out of with yearly games vs. Bama, USC, UGA and UF we really couldn't have it any other way.

Thanks for the good conversation, will be interesting to see what happens next week.

Or maybe a few people could take a few seconds and point it out to them. You know, as part of doing their job.

He was definitely made aware that he is a priority for SC and not UT by our Staff. Clark grew going to UT games with his Dad and has long been a Vols Fan. With that said Coach Elliott has really done a great job here and I think SC has a shot to pull off a commitment.

Def doesn't sound like it's over. Slow playing him may bite us.

From VQ

It's Tennessee or Gamecocks. I believe some momentum is with Tennessee since he just visited, but as of last night he was still going back-and-forth between two schools.

Might boil down to how much he "trusts" the UT offer

I'm sure he is aware out depth chart is razor thin at OT. Depth chart and early PT are not always the top priority for a recruit. Obviously that is the case here with him growing up a UT fan.
