Golightly has had the Spur position nailed down now going on his second year. He stays healthy too. Imagine if we knew who all eleven D starters were already? But we don't.

Smile Re: Thoughts on Golightly

Golightly at the end of last year did not remotely resemble the Golightly that started the year. Rarely have I seen a player improve to the extent he did over the course of last year. He looked lost & just got physically manhandled early & then in that one home game (Miss St sounds right, I do know it was at home) he just somehow put it all together. Before that he was just a guy who jumped around high fiving & celebrating tackles 10 yards down the field. Loved the enthusiasm but man when you drag a RB down after a gain of 12, just get up & get ready for the next play. They won that one.

He's still undersized but if he can build on what he did at the end of last year he'll make some big plays.

I prefer Diggs. Golightly missed a bunch of tackles in the backfield

I think there's a place for both. I don't necessarily disagree with your opinion but if Golightly, as bad as he was early, still beat out Diggs, then Diggs was really struggling & clearly wasn't ready. (youth, etc)

The reviews on Diggs from spring ball would indicate he's made a huge jump so I think both play a lot.

Competition & depth, that's a good thing. Especially with these spread, high tempo offenses. Got to have at a minimum 2 guys ready to play meaningful snaps.

Golightly had a huge game against Mississippi St. last year. He had 4 or 5 big open field tackles in the first quarter alone.

Yea they will both play a lot just like last year. They rotate.

Coaches want to get Bryant on the field as much as possible too.

We have some quality depth at spur and LB for that matter. Guys like Walton and Bryant are very talented.

I hope he is packing on the pounds. He was kinda light...around 195 i believe. would be nice to see him get around 215-220.

Just to add to the thread...although I think the Fullback on this play is probably thinking "OK, lets not have another "HIT" and totally missed Golightly coming around the corner.

Great vid USCgrad04.

Golightly has something that I've heard many, many great coaches preach as the essential element in a successful football player. He has aggression. In my experience, aggression comes from inside. It cannot be taught. And Golightly has it.

Love the intensity Golightly plays with. I expect him to have a great year in 2014.

Golightly is perfect for the smashmouth spread teams such as Auburn and Clemp. He is small, but also hard to block and very quick. He also is a sure tackler despite his size.

Diggs is a physical player as well. Both of those guys will play a lot at spur for us this year. We are in good shape at the LB position.
