What bothers me is that is okay to pass on the notion that student athletes are nothing but big dumb animals who are bred to play sports and shouldn't be bothered to learn something in a class, but it's not okay that these big dumb animals aren't rewarded in hard cash for a few years and are in fact PUNISHED by being FORCED to go to class in order to be allowed to play.

I wonder what real student athletes like Andrew Luck and Michael Roth would say about some one who said this.

What's to stop a hotel owner from leasing 2 bedroom suites for $900 a month to football players when the going rate is a lot more than that? Anything the NCAA allows the players to do, they would still have to approve. I'm sure they are going to want to see tax returns and such. They catch most people that get away with this stuff anyways. Obviously they are not going to approve a $50,000 Carwash. They tried to bill a girl $25 dollars for water because she washed her car with a dorm hose. They might approve pay for a reasonable rate though.

If you do allow them to work, how do you determine free market value?

I have this before and will say it every time this bs comes up, no one and I mean no one forced them to go play college. You want the real villain it's the NFL and NBA. The NCAA needs to clean the Universities up with all their rapes, drug using, domestic violence, and underage drinking, these are real problems. The NCAA needs to have standard punishments for these crimes instead of the Universities "policing" themselves and they have done a piss poor job of that.

Why should anyone hire you and pay if you don't have experience. If you haven't proven yourself?

If things are going the way, it's because they unions have used their influence the corrupt the legal system. Think about this NCAA Union stuff going on. Northwestern...Unions...Chicago...Barrack Obama... president appointed NLRB...Chicago judges.... It's not to hard to see where some of these decisions are coming from when the system is rigged.

Get your political bullshit out of here. There's a forum for that.

Why should an intern performing work get paid? Because they're performing work! I'm not a huge fan of slave labor, but hey- that's just me. Slaves received experience, too... Still ****ed up.

For those advocating that an education is payment enough. How do you feel about players being shuttled to classes that require little effort and do not conflict with practice time? Suppose our starting whatever wants to be an engineer and a class they needs for graduation is only offered during a time period that will force them to miss several practices and a couple of games.
