When I look the list of DE's that ESPN ranked only maybe 1-2 of them are even above 6'4. DE's dont have to be super tall or extremely huge anymore. In college football its all about tecnhinque, skill and speed when you are in those trenches. Yes strength and size matter, but let's not kill ourselves worrying about it each and every day. Give these guys some credit, give them a chance and let's see what they can do. Please?

Oh, my bad...Lol! Theory works for anyone though. Everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves in this sport and position on any team.

What has Rodney Garner done that makes you say he's a "top notch" defensive line coach?

Well, for one thing he's a hell of a recruiter, and he turned Auburn's D-Line into one of the top D-Lines last season. He also puts players in the NFL.

With all the young guys in the middle again this year I understand why they put A&M where they did, but the talent of guys like Garrett coming in plus the valuable experience gained last year makes me believe we can work our way up a few spots. Have to prove it on the field though.

Recruiting and a top-notch defensive line coach are two different things. I'll be kind and use the term shady—Garner walks a very thin line in recruiting. Lest you've forgotten, he was specifically named by Terry Bowden as one funneling cash to players at the end of Dye's tenure. That's a subject for another thread—another forum.

You've characterized AU's defensive line as "one of the top D-lines last season?" That, in spite of being ranked in the bottom half of the NCAA in rush defense? The sack number for 2013 were average. Granted, better than 2012, but what's that saying?

15 years at UGA and they've seen around a half of a dozen go in the first three rounds of the NFL draft. There's likely a dozen in the league now; most of whom were 4th round or later. In other words, not ready for prime time. So, we're looking at every other year there's one that goes in the first two days. And that with the talent that comes from the state of Georgia?

It's a very safe statement saying any success UGA has had on its defense has come despite Garner.

Eh, they performed well when they needed to.

A gif of a 3rd down play is what you're basing your claims about the coaching ability of Rodney Garner upon?

This conversation reminds me of an earlier one where you were lauding Auburn's place in FBS history. When your assertions were refuted, factually, your parameters continually changed and were consistently wrong.

In all seriousness, saying "they performed well when they needed to" flies in the face of an 11 play series on January 6th.

It all makes me wonder of Thenardier needs to be retired and Jondrette adopted as a username. You can continue your role as a protagonist.

Based on following Garner's career for over two decades I find promoting his abilities as a defensive line coach without merit. It's an opinion based on what's been demonstrated. It's eerily similar to Georgia—perception isn't reality.
