Default D.Thompson vs mizz u.

I keep reading remarks about Dylans performance ,[.or lack of], at the mizz game.A few years back USC was down 17 pts vs ECU? Conner Shaw WAS REPLACED BY S. GARCIA, who made a come back to win. POINT: Every QB has a bad day.Dylan will be fine ,after all he has been coached and .trained beside Conner for 5 yrs. This just could be a year of Fun/Gun.It all hinges on the OL, protection.SOS longs for the high scoring games ,his trademark..

No he doesn't. He wants to score as many points as possible early and run down the clock in the second half.

My issue with Dylan is that he is a career 50% passer and has shown some chinks in the armor last year in regards to his mechanics. I was also disappointed that he could not shake off the Mike Davis turnovers and get something going in the second half.

His best performances have been when something good early happens for him. That isn't going to happen every game.

For a 5th year senior, I expect him to complete at least 60% and be able to rebound from slow starts to make plays down the stretch. Time will tell if he can do that.

Dylan wasn't the problem vs Mizzou. Mike Davis fumbles twice while driving inside the 10. That's a 14 point swing, most likely.

Sure Dylan could have performed better...If your going to be beating a dead horse...what about Shaws fumbles against UGA? I mean if we're talking about underwhelming performance.

Fact is 75% of the SEC would take Dylan, we were spoiled by a GREAT passing performance by shaw last season. Dylan has the ability...but the receivers scare me this year. Roland can have the drops and inconsistency like 95% of the last two seasons.

His first real test will be Georgia since I don't think aTm's defense will be able to stop our running attack. If he can play well against Georgia the schedule sets up nicely until the trip to Auburn, if he struggles against Georgia and they pull off the win it could be a huge blow to his confidence level. If he plays smart and gets the ball out quickly like Spurrier preaches his % will go up along with his confidence and we could be seeing a offense similar to the ones Spurrier had at Florida.

I don't think you can compare the UGA game and the Mizzou game. Connor Shaw & the offense scored a bunch of points against UGA. You're right though, his turnover in the 4th quarter did hurt, but with the way the USC offense was playing that day, they shouldn't have been in that position to begin with. 80% of that loss is attributed to the defense.

The Mizzou game was just a steady run of missed opportunities and inconsistency.

The receivers will be fine. Byrd is proven. Jones is proven. Roland played very well down the stretch starting with Mississippi State. Going to need to get something from the slot guy(s) whether its Cooper, Brent, or Samuel but the situation is a lot better than it could be.

Having an O-line with a good mix of experience and talent at all 5 positions will be a big help, too. Keeping that pocket clean can go along way for DT.

I've rewatched the Mizzou game, and he came out of the gate amped up and throwing everybody high. If he had just settled down a bit, it could have changed the complexion of that game.

Definitely not complaining, one of the more exciting games I've ever watched.

Which leads back to my original point. He needs to get off to quick starts. Even in his first start against ECU in 2012 I think he connected with 1 of his first 6 before hitting Byrd on the fly route? After that he settled in.

Same with UAB that year. I remember seeing Spurrier chunk a playsheet and told Seth Strickland to warm up after Dylan missed on 3 or 4 passes in a row. As soon as that happened, Dylan hit a big one and got going.

Its imperative that he connects on some medium/long range throws early this year.

I don't have any problem with Thompson passing 50% since he hardly ever throws a short pass.

Then hopefully you don't have a problem going 6-6. 50% doesn't get it done anymore, regardless of how deep the throws are.

Go back and watch Shaw in the Florida game, he overthrew three TD passes that would have ended the game's drama.

Truth is, football's a team sport. I expect some falloff in the QB production department, but we still have enough horses to win games. What worries me the most about Dylan is his penchant for slinging the ball into coverage. Unlike Shaw, who at times refused to let it go, Dylan will often try to force throws into tight coverage. I'm hoping that doesn't come back to bite us.

Well, in his defense he throws the ball where the play is designed to go. Something that every quarterback sans Blake Mitchell has had a problem doing here it seems.

I think accuracy is a bigger issue than decision making with him.

One area I think Thompson has proven superior to Shaw is his pocket presence. He seems to slide and step up in the pocket better than Shaw. That can go a long way with a talented OL.

Dylan's pass the win the Outback bowl is what defines Dylan to me. That was making a play with your arm in the face of pressure. He has that swag in there somewhere. He needs to find it, and his teammates need to pump him up early on.

The missed opportunities were not all DT's fault and put more pressure on him to perform, if his teammates capitalize early on opportunities set up by DT we blow mizzou out the water with DT as QB. Instead Shaw gave the teammates the spark to get going but DT did not have a bad game against mizzou and just as easily could have led us back as Shaw did with teammates making plays. I think SOS should not have come out gun slinging, Davis was getting 5 and 6 yards a carry but we come out with 3 straight passes and punt...Fry misses a FG...Davis Fumbles....Davis fumbles at the goal line...INT...not being able to get 1yd on back to back plays with Carson and DT why not Davis?...The rest is history!

I think Spurrier knows this offense can use short, high-percentage throws to move the ball and get Thompson going. Mixing short-intermediate throws with the running game will open up the long ball imo. The biggest factor this year, imo, will be the play calling. Obviously the execution has to be there, but if Coach puts these guys in position, with all the playmakers on the field, this offense will put up points. Consistency and clock management will be critical as well...especially with a new look defense early on.
