Huh? You can't compare Russell Wilson and Connor Shaw. Wilson was 10x the passer Shaw was in college. Blame it on the system if you want, but Wilson through for over 3,000 yards every year he started.

I thought Russell Wilson was highly underdrafted and a steal in the 3rd round. Dude had one of the best lasers in college football. Only thing he lacked at QB position was height. If he was 3" taller, he would have been a sure Top 5 pick in any draft.

10x? That is a little exaggerative no?

I don't recall this love for Russell from the people that do this for a job.

Russell and Shaw have similar skill sets physically. Shaw looking to throw first and not take hits will be key going forward.

If RW hadn't of had that incredible Sr season at Wisky, he could have easily been an UDFA like Connor.
Playing smart and not losing games are two attributes that both QBs share. It that has served them and the teams they've played on well.

Why would Johnny be rolling up a $20 bill in the men's room? Stephen was never this out of control. This is sad. What a waste. Evidence is mounting that this young man may have dependency concerns. Connor needs to turn and burn as he may be substantially closer to playing time than the world once thought.

We'll find out in about 8 weeks whether all that off field experience is working for him. If he is relying on substance abuse for entertainment, how is he going to use it when the pressures of professional football hit him?

It's difficult to put a quantitative number on how much better one is at passing than another. I would agree with cola though, RW is a significantly better passer than Shaw. Other skills may be on par, but throwing, not even close... especially the deep ball. Not a good comparison IMO.

I really do hope Shaw has a shot. Manziel is either going to crash and burn or he will be the new NFL villain like Namath because half the fans of the sport will not want him to win.

Manziel likely to begin NFL
career as Johnny Backup

Cleveland's first full-squad training camp practice is Saturday morning at the team's headquarters in Berea.

Quote:
But even if Hoyer becomes the starter and wins like he did last season, it wouldn't necessarily preclude Manziel from playing as a rookie. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Shanahan featuring Manziel in certain packages.

And remember, the backup always seems to find himself in the lineup in Cleveland. No Browns quarterback has started all 16 regular-season games since Tim Couch in 2001.

Which is why the competition between veteran Tyler Thigpen and undrafted rookie Connor Shaw for the No. 3 quarterback job could be more important than anyone wants to admit. As Pat Shurmur would say, "I saw some eyes roll." Still, the Browns have started three quarterbacks in two of the past four seasons, so it does matter.

In the under card featuring Thigpen and Shaw, I'll go with the rookie because of the upside he showed in spring practices and because Thigpen was out of football last season.

In the main event pitting Hoyer against Manziel, I'll stick with the veteran and expect the rookie to surface at some point during the upcoming season.
