Probably too full, and we're loaded at LB. For such a small position, taking BAW last class and Pittman this class will keep it pretty covered. We've got no seniors this year (unless you count walk-on Kyle Morini), and will have one senior in 2015 (Lewis). The coaches probably feel they have good depth as it is, and will only bring in what they need to, to replace the losses. Moore, Holloman, Roberts, and Walton will be juniors in 2015, and while 1 or 2 of them may leave early for the NFL, I highly doubt all of them would...

I think the reason is that LB is not a position of need and we already have Pittman and Durant.

DJ Jones, several DB's for 1 slot, maybe....could be holding a couple of spots for oversigns. Don't forget we have 27 now per Rivals plus Wideman and Sawyer hopefully will be part of the class, and maybe Smalls and even Blue. If we were to get those 4, that would give us 31, then Jones and a DB and you have our max of 33.......25 plus 8 EE.

Makes good sense, nice breakdown. Also, I'm glad to see that we are still in it with DJ Jones.

Is staff required to issue an LOI to a preferred walkon or a grey shirt, should we have any?

also is staff required to issue a LOI to a potential non qualifier?
and if they have the choice and anticipating the prospect will not qualify, staff elect not to issue the LOI how is it handled if indeed he does qualify and both he and staff wish him to enroll?

A letter of intent is like a contract for scholarship.

You are not required to give/get a LOI from a walkon who is not going to be on scholly - and he is, of course, not contracted to you. A grey shirt is also somebody that you are not promising a scholly. Therefore, you don't give them LOIs.

Yes, they are required to give one to a "potentitl non-qualifier" if they expect to bind him to the school in the event he does qualify. If they do not bind him with an LOI, he can sign with anybody he chooses when he qualifies. The team cannot bring in more than 25 new scholly players at Fall camp. (Remember, EEs came in already so they don't count) regardless of whether they signed a LOI.

Say the above scenrio or one very near to it occurs and our max of 33 is reached some point during the season.

Say the season goes well even for our current standards, for instance win the SEC east, top 5 at the least.

Say some of the prospects, maybe even several or more, who are highest on our board and/or playing positions of most need as determined by staff, decide they too would like to join our 15 cycle class........

Do we turn down those most highly regarded prospects citing we are full?

Do we slow play them dispite thier being at the top of our board, and risk the possibility, even likelyhood they move on, hoping sufficient slots come open via decommittment etc.?

Do we create openings by dismissing current committments who have failed to develop and perform during thier senior season as we have done in the past but which brought a little negative attention to the program?

Do we cut ties with prospects who are on the academic bubble?

Do we switch committed offers from standard fall enrollment to grey shirt or preferred walk on and give the lesser regarded committment the choice to take or leave it. I think we did this with the DE who ultimatly choose UT?, correct or confirm?

Do we keep them all on the committment list and send LOI on signing day only to those we determine we most value, which we did, though this brought a higher level of negative criticism to the program?

Is the temporary negative attention brought on by any of these actions out weighed by the potential dividens and long term value of success the highly regarded prospect may deliver on the field of play?

Are thier other options Iv'e not mentioned.... which are?

What would you do, what do you think staff would/will do?

Many say "the #s work out" and indeed they usually do but in such cases HOW? thanks WVP

all very good questions....none of which I have an answer for....if you look at the first sentence in my post, if the coaches feel they have a reasonable chance to get a really good player later on, I think they only accept the commit of DJ Jones at this point and hold the other couple of places for better players that may not decide until later. Plus suppose we don't get Smalls or Blue, then we can take Jones and a DB and still have a couple of spots for others. I say all this under the assumption we have 8 EE.....if we only have 7 EE, then our max class can only be 32. At this point we only have 5 EE for sure.....Lewis, Palmer, Durant, Clark, Alexander.....add Wideman and Smalls if they both are eligible to enroll in January)....that's 7.....then Jones would be 8.
