25 carries a game is a lot! Heck 20 is a lot.

Just out of curiosity I wonder how many carries a game is typical today in NCAA football for a starting RB in the spread or any fast paced offense. 15-18? Occationally
25? You gotta figure in those games where a starting RB sits out which reduces his average.

Any of you statistical types know an avg?

Star ratings reflect only the published offers a player has received, and the number of and conference of schools that are recruiting the player in high school. Star ratings are also tilted toward larger populated to passionate school fan-bases. If your school has a lot of passionate fans, the recruiting services will tend to rate players higher.

They also factor in the published ratings of competitor rating systems, which are somewhat driven by the media pressure to advertise. Here is an example:

Player A is being recruited by Texas A&M. Keep in mind that schools start the recruiting process very early, sometimes as early as Freshman year in high school. A&M makes contact and is involved with the young man.

A recruiting reporter calls the family of Player A. He learns that A&M is recruiting the player as a freshman. Therefore, he assigns the player a 4 star rating (or maybe just a high 3 star). As more schools begin to recruit the player, the star rating gets bumped up.

Before long, other schools learn about Player A through the recruiting news service. They begin to make visits or send letters. Fans get wind of the high rating and begin tweeting the player, his family, and the services. Higher and higher ranks ensue as the services attempt to tickle the ears of the market, and simultaneously sell advertising.

Notice I have not written anything about raw talent.
I noticed, you didn't write anything about "Raw talent" but what makes those schools actually recruit that kid? It isn't just because the kid is nice... It is about his talent... Yes a big named school like A&M might spark some interest from other schools, but his talent is what will make other schools actually recruit him and that in turn generates the stars as you stated. So it really does come down to Talent doesn't it?

Raw talent is determined on the field.

I think this game will be interesting to watch if for no other reason as we can make assessments about the raw talent associated with Texas verses South Carolina high school football. Over the past few weeks, we have listened to quite a bit of disparaging remarks about South Carolina high school ball and how it doesn't stack up at all with the great prep system in Texas.

I agree that there is something to be said about educating these kids on social media and it's use for networking, self promotion etc. My point is a player like Mike Davis who is on the fringe of national spot light might make a small difference in his brand but it isn't worth the risk to the University. Let's take a 3rd string DL...they would have just as much right to do this but with smaller gain potential and the same risk.

Two things I don't like, a private issue between a coach and player being hashed out on twitter and interviews and second the potential for NCAA issues to come to light. Our recent issues all stemmed from some mindless twitting.
It is a fine line to be sure.

One of the things that make social media tricky is you cannot just be out there with marketing. You have to interact with your followers. The best way to do it is some degree of sharing.

Certainly, it should be something that is taught to the players in terms of how to build a brand. IMO, parents and schools should be teaching this in high school or even middle. You certainly don't want players out there flinging around raw emotional crap.

However, if you have a particular player that is doing that, you can take the individual off line and use it as a teaching moment. You don't need a blanket ban.

we can limit the touches, but sometimes injuries especially as we've seen them with our backs are just bad luck. his touches went down to 17 vs miss st and he had 154 total yards vs them. he didnt have a ton of touches vs florida and he was having a good game until the one play where he got nicked up and he wasnt the same for that game and pretty much the rest of the regular season. in the bowl game he had a solid game for the amount of touches he got, but he got banged up once again on a good run down to the goaline.

ideally his carries will be in the 15-20 range, but obviously it depends on how things are going. im more to see how many carries the backs end up getting this year. backs averaged just under 25 per game in 2013. very good sign if that jumps to around 30.
