"The Gamecocks are working on not giving as much cushion to their receivers and getting to the passer."

I don't understand why it took an ass beating on national TV to realize this was a good idea?

Who are these 4* guys that Adams has, you are talking out both sides of your mouth...Lawing coached Ingram, Clowney, Taylor, Norwood...Tell us who is a 4* prospect starting on the D-line at the present and then tell us why Lawing couldn't get those Sparky Woods recruits to play lights out! Adams coached at north carolina and s. miss so how many 4 and 5 star players you reckon he saw before joining Spurrier?

Spurrier said before the season started that we have no super stars this year on either side of the ball, with maybe the exception of Mike Davis. But we have a lot of guys who can play.
I just wonder now if maybe he was giving our young guys too much credit? Has our recruiting gotten worse? We have won a lot of games the last few years so why do we not have the 4 and 5 star talent here? Offense and defense.

Our recruiting hasn't gotten worse, right now USC is #5 in the nation for the 2015 class. One problem with the recruits are that they can't make it in right away and end up at JUCO.

Did you miss the games Lawing coached our DL and we were curbstomped by teams like Florida and Arkansas?

I could not agree more. In past years our defense has kept us in games we probably had no business winning due to poor play on offense. If we can run the offense like we have run against Clemsux, controlling the clock & limiting possessions, it would go a LONG way in helping out with the defensive issues. Allowing a team to run 99 plays, no matter who they are, is a recipe for disaster.

People keep saying this and I don't get it. Well I do but I don't agree with it. The whole control the clock, ground and pound is exactly what we need to do and will do. But that philosophy only works if the defense can stop the opposing offense. If not, it becomes a shoot out not a control the clock type game.

If we can control the clock and ground and pound it will also allow the defensive coaches upstairs and on the sidelines for more time to adjust to what the other offense is doing. That is if we have the horses to make the adjustments work.

If our O stays on the field, it gives our D an advantage so that they're better rested, and can be coached up more on the sidelines for any mistakes the coach's saw. It would also wear down the opposing D, so (ideally) we could score easier when/if the game was on the line.

Offense was not the problem. We scored 4 TDs. We had that one drop at the goal line that should've been 6, but even if we had 35 points, we can't give up 52 and win. The defense has got to stop SOMETHING. Who knows what the offense may or may not have done if the defense would get off the field and give them more opportunities?

No question defense was the main problem, but offense wasn't exactly great. 4 scores in 11 drives against (what appears to be) a mediocre A&M defense? And needed the help of multiple PI calls bailing out bad throws at that.

in the 1st quarter we had 7 run calls 7 pass calls. score was 10-7, they had 3 possessions and we were on our 3rd possession, its about balance. virtually anytime we havent had balance in the spurrier era the offense has been extremely inconsistent.

That's the classic definition of "pipe dream". Our D was off the field the entire half - by your logic "getting coached up ... for any mistakes the coaches saw". Yea, that second half looked a ton better...

Of course once the D was exposed the offensive game plan stayed the same - no wait... Calling aTm's D "mediocre" makes you sound like Tajh Boyd and his comments regarding our D...

Y'all will be fine in a year or so. There are a lot of young guys playing on defense and most kids will not be able to step right into SEC play from HS without some major, major growing pains. I know y'all had really good success with freshman players in Gilmore, Lattimore, Clowney, etc, but those type of players are few and far between. There are just growing pains right now.

No, I get it! But like last Thursday, when the d can't keep the other guys out of the end zone, you are forced to go one dimensional to try and keep it close. I was surprised that we didn't run as much in the first half. But when we did, we went no where! Then we got caught in catch up mode.

Welp, they've already put up the worst defensive performance in school history. So they literally cannot get any worse.

I'm talking about giving them every advantage. Grinding it out sure worked out for us last year.

No one ever said it was "THE PROBLEM" but it helps.

Regardless, it seems that you're buying into the "everything sucks!!!!" mindset, so don't let me dissuade you from that.

Regarding their D, look at how they're ranked....not highly. Granted, we were supposed to be world beaters on OL, and you see what happened. It's still early in the season so who knows how things turn out, but the reality is that they weren't that highly ranked on D coming into the game. That's what the poster was referring to.

You haven't shared your thoughts, just criticized others. Care to share?

I'm not sure what the mix of the run/pass was, but it seems like we abandon the run early.

Just because they scored quickly doesn't mean we have to press to do the same either, unless it's near the half or end of the game. Simply, they dictated the tempo of the game, and it wasn't what we wanted or were good at (obviously). We fell further and further behind.
