Partially agree and disagree here.

No one here knows how difficult it is for a DI QB to have to go through his progressions in just 3 seconds or less with defenders bearing down on him. It is certainly much easier to do on replay.

I disagree to the extent that it shows plays are there and we're just missing them. All Roper can do is call the right play, yet folks want to pin it on him when Jake misses wide open receivers or RBs consistently run into the back of the OL instead of looking for holes.

Got to respectfully disagree.

Watch his head, watch the side of his helmet, it doesn't move. He's locked onto one receiver, never sees Shi running open. If he'd turned his head to the left slightly he'd have seen him running waving his arm.

Who needs GIF's to see it. I curse at the TV or field every game watching it. I don't think he checks out of some plays that he should and locks onto that primary for too long. Doesn't read Defenses as well as he should? You tell me because it's 6-7 plays a game we miss out on potential big gains or 3rd down conversions.
Maybe next year everyting slows down and comes togather for Jake, but wouldn't it be nice for that light to come on against the taters

I believe his peripheral vision was probably impaired by the defender and his helmet of course. When I first saw this throw, I thought it was just overthrown. It may be that Edwards set down in his route and Jake thought he was going to keep going. Hindsight and reviews are 20/20. Just ask all the refs that get bailed out on bad calls.

I think it gets lost sometimes that he is still only 19-years old. In perfect world he's still the backup to a senior starter and learning as he goes. I saw something about playing a different player for qb controversey but thats not the answer. Jake Bentley is the first hard nosed leader on offense this team has had since Connor Shaw and thats what he brings to the table more than anything. And he's talented enough to do the job.

Now next year if he hasnt improved on this stuff then we have a bigger problem.

As I guy who played qb for a long time... Most qbs look inside out when rolling. The backside drag route is almost always open and mostly who they play is designed to go to.

Yes, he stares Edwards down the whole time. If he scans even a little bit, he might've seen the open option. Maybe, but there were defenders in his face, so it's forgivable. He's running for his life at that point, and only a truly legendary QB has the sort of poise to make that play.

Plus, the play he did make wasn't terrible, aside from the miscommunication. Idk who was wrong there, but if Bryan keeps running straight that's at worst a 50/50 ball for a first down and maybe more. Not horrible since he didn't have a run option and his check down was covered

On this one, Turner picks up the blitz and gives Jake time to throw. However, Jake only looks at Edwards and realizes he can't get the ball there so he takes off. August is wide open in the middle.

Of course he did throw another pick not long after the first one, but at least he made the right decision on that throw. If he had made it a second earlier or more to the outside, that may have been a TD as well. But instead, he waited too long and threw it to the outside which allowed the safety to come get the pick. He still has some growing pains and hopefully next year he'll be more comfortable which should allow him to settle his throws early in games and should allow him to go through his progressions. The plays are there to be made.

JD
SS was open, but the guy with the pick was in good position to make the stop if Bentley had thrown it to him.

Actually, the intent of the thread and the video are both very good.

A lot of people donít look for the little things that make or break a play, they just hear the Muschamp haters bitching about Roper and assume he sucks as a play caller.

You can look in every one of our games and see multiple plays like these, receivers running free and not seen. Those two plays alone couldíve gone either for big yardage or TDís.

If he can stop staring down primary receivers and check other options, our offense can be much better. He does it at times, he just needs to be more consistent.

I'm sure roper has some plays in his bag, but can he effectively relate those to the players? He can be a great x and o kind of coach, but if he can't consistently translate that to production does it matter?

And I would also argue you slow most plays down, you'll find options. In my mind, the offense is always at an advantage in routes because they know where they are going. The defense tries to limit it and mitigate any openings.

On that first play, are we asking Bentley to roll out in his own end zone, avoid the defensive player a few yards away from him, scan the field, and make the right read? That's a lot to ask from your own end zone. Should've just thrown it away once he broke the pocket.

Here's my other concern. This offseason Bentley and roper worked on footwork per Bentley. They managed to completely derail what was working for him. Do I have much confident that this offseason roper will be able to work with him to help him with his progressions? Not so much.

Well we all know this ended up being a 20 yard gain for us....it was all part of the plan! lol

It isn't at eye level so it really is not what Jake saw. Put a camera on his helmet. (I wonder if they do that at practice?)

But how much of this goes back to coaching? Yea....that needs to be asked. Unfortunately, I don't see any of this getting any better unless something changes.
