Drinkwitz has done ok at NC State. In 2015, they ranked 57th in total offense with 412.8 ypg (5.63 yards per play)

Under Drinkwitz, those number rose to 416.4 ypg and 5.75 yards per play (2016) and 449.3 ypg and 5.93 yards per play (2017). Their yards per game are certainly going up, but the yards per play haven't really changed.
Their scoring offense has actually dropped under Drinkwitz.

2015: 33.1 ppg (prior to Drinkwitz)
2016: 25.2 ppg
2017: 28.9 ppg

Kendall Briles should be the pick. If we can pair a wide open Big 12 type offense with a nard nosed SEC defense, we will have success.

I've read Drinkwitz (Tony Morrell), Troy Walters rumored via TBS.

With how tight-lipped Champ was with the Roper thing, I highly doubt we'll hear anything until after the bowl game when he has said he'll make the announcement.

In the mean time, everyone on here will claim to have a source.

If that's the case, he could've just kept Roper. They clearly need an OC that can do a lot more than play conservative. There's too much talent on this offense to settle for that playing style.

Do you think he’d give the job to Mclendon? He appears to be one of our best recruiters, and the WRs were very good.

Whomever it is, just lets be consistent. And I dont believe we have to open up our pocket books. My guess is that if Muschamp wants someone, then Ray will open it up. But it doesnt necessarily mean he will need to.
The SEC isn't inherently more difficult to play in, it's probably not even the best conference in the nation right now. And I'm not sure why you don't think high flying offenses wouldn't work in the SEC. A&M and Ole Miss have had success with it in the past and Alabama- the quintessential SEC team- has had a ton of difficulty stopping well executed HUNH offenses. Well maybe not a ton of difficulty but a lot more difficulty than alabama usually has

A&M and Ole Miss didn't win a division title much less a conference title. So what they pull off an upset here or there? They both are ground down by the end of the season. The Sumlin experiment failed. A&M is bringing in a coach who's serious about winning the SEC. Stop looking for shortcuts.

That’s because neither of their coaches were particularly good and they were playing in a conference with Alabama. Your post just proves my point that two pretty mediocre coaches were able to beat Alabama and have some success with an offense that supposedly cannot work in the SEC. If up tempo offenses were so futile against “superior” sec defenses then Saban wouldn’t have railed so hard to make them illegal

As I said above just because they had a mediocre coach not succeed with it doesn’t mean the whole system is bunk. This whole argument is founded on a ridiculous premise because we’re arguing that what works elsewhere in college wouldn’t work in the SEC because for some magic reason once a player gets to the SEC his 40 time goes up a half second, he puts on 50 pounds of muscle, and now spread offenses are completely neutered by the sheer athleticism of the almighty SEC. This is an offense that has worked with decent success against the best ever iteration of the SEC defense model. Just because Kevin sumlin limited the general success of the team doesn’t mean it is a failure in the conference.

And besides, why would we want to do the same thing everybody else in the SEC does? If the goal is to win against Alabama in order to win SEC and National titles one day, why would we follow the same model of other teams that never beat Bama. Even though those teams get better recruits than us they still don’t beat Bama and yet we want to do the same old thing because clearly the SEC is too good for any new fangled offensive systems. It doesn’t make any sense

A high powered offense could surely work in the SEC. Most teams are just too busy hiring defensive coaches as their HC to take the chance. At this point, Muschamp should roll the dice.... he may end up looking like genius.
