Default Chris Low Blog: Spurrier Sticking Up For His Team

Article

Pretty much agree 100% especially this part:

Quote:
In sum, an 8-4 finish would be a really good season for the Gamecocks, especially when you consider the youth on this team and the injuries they’ve incurred.

A 7-5 finish would be an OK season, especially if the Gamecocks could play well in their bowl game and win.

But a 6-6 finish would be unacceptable … and reignite some serious questions about where this program is headed under Spurrier.

That quote right there pretty much hits the nail on the head I think.

The whole article is pretty much on the money. I also like this quote:

Quote:
So I agree with the Head Ball Coach. The Gamecocks’ best football would appear to be down the road.

But what they can’t let happen (and I know he doesn't want to hear this) is for this season to unravel the way it did the last two years. Three years in a row becomes a trend.

Spurrier is correct when he says that the Gamecocks are 6-3 right now and that it could be a lot worse.

But you’re not judged as a football team on where you are the first week of November. You’re judged on where you are the first week of January.

BEAT CLEMSON!!!! 7-5 with that win would be just great for me. I know that our 3 loses so far could have gone either way. I know that 3 of our wins could have gone either way. What do you expect with this young team? I still think we can win all three games left on the schedule!! Seriously. There's no reason we can't beat Ark or Clemson. We are pretty even teams. We just need to play smart and don't turn the ball over. That's not asking a whole lot. Yes it will take some much improved play to beat UF, but it can happen. Just beat Clemson and I'll be able to smile all winter long!

It's also not just the losses, but how much we lose to CU by. Another pasting by Dabo and things will get ugly. SOS really needs to beat CU.

Flameout, you and I don't agree on much, but I agree with you here 100%.

We have to beat Clemson and if we don't beat them, it sure as hell better be a down to wire game like every seasons except for last seasons.

9-3 is still possible but you do realize we play the defending National Champs right.

Well if we lose to arky then clemson is a must win. I mean it is anyway but just saying to get to 7-5 cause unlesss florida REALLY helps us and makes mistakes in the game I don't see us winning that one.

This game Saturday is a program defining game for the Cocks. Win and you have momentum and a positive vibe going into the Gator game. So even if you lose that you will be playing Clemson for a chance to win a rivalry game and put a stamp on a great season.

Lose Saturday and most likely the wheels will start to fall of the wagon. Fans will murmer, players will lose confidence and you could be in for an ugly game Vs. Fl.
Then that would put tremendous pressure on the team to beat Clemson, because if not the season will have turned into a massive trainwreck.

This is the same spot the Vols were in last week, hopefully you guys can force some turnovers and capitalize with TD's, like the Vols were able to do on Halloween. I promise you I will be pulling for you guys!

I, frankly, loved Sprurier's comments and the mettle with which he delivered them. I have been plenty critical about game preparation and especially play calling, but I think he and the team realize that they need to fix some problems and mistakes, but have nothing to be down about. This team has more heart than many of it's fans.

Chris Low does a pretty fair assessment of us. He's right about the record, we can't afford to have another 6-6/7-6 year, just can't happen. This team is very young, we all knew that. If ya'll recall before the season, I included, we were figuring 4-6 wins, tops. A lot of the young guys have shown so many signs of maturity and heart. Am I disappointed about last weekend, of course. A loss is a loss. Spurrier is now figuring out that he has to take the offense into a different direction. If no one can see the pontential and talent level we have at Carolina now, then you're blind. We've made mistakes (dropped interceptions, sacks, fumbles, etc.), but we're learning. We have something to be proud of coming up. I know fans get pissed and so says the familiar statement, "well, there's always next year". Seems like some of us on this board are already saying that and we have 3 huge, probably 4 big games left. Let's rally behind our guys, b/c I promise..it's been worth the wait. GO COCKS, bring a win back from Arky!
