For those with access:
http://www.gogamecocks.com/2012/07/1...ream-come.html The upshot of the story is that Jordan Diggs, son of former Gamecock Shed Diggs, absolutely loves being a Gamecock. He's tweeted that and tells anyone who asks. Has been talking about being a Gamecock since he was 5. This kid is from Fla. didn't get offers from the in-state schools, and Jamie Newburg says they may live to regret it. Four-star safety coming out of high school, 6' 197 lbs, likely to be backup spur. Great quote: “I grew up watching Carolina,” he told GoGamecocks recently. “Just about every time I watched a college football game, Carolina was playing somebody. Garnet and black is in my blood. I’m a Gamecock down to my feet. It’s in my soul.” ![]() |

It will be interesting to see if we move L. Bryant to Spur next year and then shift Jordan to safety to fill DJ's spot next year.......just a thought. After the A2 discussion a few days ago about possibly being moved to safety, I guess anything is possible. What surprised me most about that discussion was I thought LW was very high on Brison Williams/Sheldon Royster.

Diggs will start at spur next year. Bryant will either backup or play LB imo. Almost zero chance LB over takes Diggs

I wouldn't be surprised to see Diggs at safety - possibly cornerback, but not at spur in year one. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kelvin Rainey moved to backup spur if he's not going to get any PT at tight end. I think his toughness, size, versatility, speed, and vertical would fit the position. Diggs seems well-sized for safety and a little small for spur - however AA seemed on the light side but could tackle like a junkyard pit bull.

And this Rainey to Spur idea isnt happening. If they did move him to defense they would pack on the weight and play him at WILL.

I don't see Rainey at Spur permanently, but as a grow-into transition as with D Jeffery. If he has a shot at PT at tight end, he certainly might stick there. He should be able to get into the 230-240 range without losing speed. I wouldn't be surprised to see Diggs at safety initially as was Holloman who they wanted to transition to spur last year. I don't see a 6' 200 guy playing spur unless he's A. Allen, especially as a freshman. The spurs listed behind Holloman are just little, especially when the Spur is the third linebacker in run support and a 5th back in coverage.

Part of the reason for my comment earlier about Diggs to safety was the fact several on here have said Bryant would make a terrific spur but may be a back up at LB. I think he's much too good to not be on the field.....and the same can be said about Diggs. It's a nice problem to have this much talent.

These are the type of players that will continue to grow our program nationally. We need players like this to keep coming. Growing up wanting to be Gamecocks! We just need to keep winning to grow our brand nationally. If Spurrier stays a few more years and gets close to Bear Bryant's SEC wins record and breaks it, that will help. You know Spurrier would want that record especially if we can keep winning like last year.

We'll have some nice young talent forming up in our secondary, starting with last season: Diggs, a 4* who announced for USC at the Army All-America Game, will be developed for the Spur position. Chaz Elder, a 4* who announced for USC at the UA All-America Game, is a projected CB/S. Then there's Brison Williams, a 4* out of Fork Union Prep slated to be our starter at strong safety this season, and Sheldon Royster, a 4* and consensus top-10 prospect who's scheduled to back up senior D.J. Swearinger at free safety this season. Also have highly regarded/recruited high 3* Kadetrix Marcus at FS as well...
We thought bringing in Gilmore and Holloman in 2009 were great secondary additions, but IMO the overall talent level of that area has only improved since then. We need to focus on the CB position now....
