Penalties and sanctions are an unfortunate and rather large part of college football. The NCAA has been especially busy over the last few years, as Penn State, Ohio State, North Carolina, USC and Miami have all run into some sort of trouble with in regards to violations.

I think the dealth penatly was more deserved at Penn St. than SMU. Yeah SMU did things to give their team an advantage on the football field which of course is just a game, but Penn St. did things that ruined multiple lives...ruined.

Lack of Institutional Control is obvious because they knowing covered up felonies because they had a shot at being #1. They painted the football program as clean and pristine and it had been harboring a sex offender for years. Why wouldn't they be punished?

Just skimming through a rule book here...ah yes. Involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, criminal intent to commit indecent assault, unlawful contact with minors, corruption of minors, endangering welfare of children are above any NCAA rules. Guilty on 45 accounts. Penn St. covered them up to protect the image of their football program. Not even the NCAA is above the law...sooooo I guess you could say those were in the NCAA rule book.

AS far as the Baylor situation, I don't know enough to comment on it. I'll read up on it. If the coach did what you said he did, then yes, there deserves to be a heavy penalty

If the NCAA couldn't have done what they did, then there would be a major lawsuit. How is that lawsuit coming for PSU?

As far as Baylor, they had some heavy penalties established. Personally, I think that coach should be banned permanently from college basketball.

Baylors penalties were associated with the NCAA.
Their coach covered up the murder because the players were taking improper payments from agents as well as illegal drugs which were given to players.

The NCAA should have kept their mouth shut and let the outrage fizzle. They care more about satisfying the idiots in a mob and throwing their weight around rather than doing their duty. If they really cared about the victims in this situation, they would let the proper authorities handle the situation, punish the guilty parties, and allow the victims to move on with their lives. I can't pretend to know what these victims have gone through or will go through, but I feel pretty confident in saying that they'll never be able to move on if ESPN and other news outlets are constantly talking about what happened, rather than promoting efforts to prevent it from ever occurring again.

Joe could have, and should have gone above that. In the mean time, let's let the man continue to use our facilities and continue to "run" a charity that easily puts him within arms length of children. Joe had a moral obligation to those children, but didn't hold up his end of the deal.
