I have always been curious, why dont they have any athletic program? in California, almost every community college has a baseball and a soccer team.
Just wondering. I think it will be good for those athletes that are really good and no smart enought to go to usc.

tech is a tiny school? how many students they have? 200? haha being sarcastic.
tech have to have a huge amount of students. I think it will be great if tech has at least 2 or 3 sport programs for men and women, it will be great for those athletes that struggle with grades.

and is actually pretty good at them for only having had them for about 5 years. They have Women's Soccer, Women's Softball, Baseball, Cross Country and Tennis(I think) Baseball & Cross Country being the oldest(about 5-6 years) and Soccer, Softball, & tennis being the newest. The baseball team actually made it to the NAIA World Series this passed season, so yeah.. I just had to use this info somewhere |

As for the reason why Midlands Tech and other Tech schools don't have athletic enrollments, it's a variety of reasons. Here are some: 1. No budget for them. They don't get a whole helluva lot of money from the state and their students are paying peanuts for tuition. 2. Too many 2 year degree programs. 3. High dropout rate. 4. Absolutely no interest in the student body/alumni. 5. Too many of their students are non-traditional. At least half of their student body is more than 3 years out of high school when they first enroll. They get people who are going back to school for whatever reason. Points 2 and 3 sort of cover this. I have no idea where the OP is getting this idea that every community college in California has soccer and baseball programs operated by their school, but it's not true in the least. They probably have intramural sports and maybe even club teams, but a small percent of non-4 year non-JUCOs in the entire nation have true school-sponsored and funded sports. |

I wasn't saying that they were 2 year schools, just that they were smaller schools with sports programs

Im too lazy to look for numbers but a lot of people goes to teach, more than what you think. I shouldn't have said "all tech schools" in california, but a lot or "most" tech schools around the los angeles area have sports programs, I lived in Los Angeles before I moved here, thats how I know. It will be interesting to see if Midlands Tech will put a good soccer and baseball team, most of us that played sports know that the best athletes always struggle with grades... Anyway, I was just curious about it, I wonder if somebody tried to make it happen before. I understand football will be too expensive, but baseball and soccer could be affordable, I think.

All schools have high drop out rates, including USC. College isn't for everyone. I lived in California for a while. Their community colleges do have competitive programs, including football, basketball, track, soccer, baseball, swimming and diving, water polo, etc. Yes, they do recruit. California funds their colleges a lot better than most states, so maybe more money is freed up. |

It is not just around LA. Community colleges in central and northern California have competitive athletic programs. |

I lived in LA county but I had friends (soccer players) in others areas around california, and like I say, most of them were soccer studs and at one point they considere playing for community colleges because their grades were not good for ucla, fullerton or santa barbara. In Los Angeles, some of those community colleges send players to professional leagues around the world, thats how good they are. I never heard of a communicty college in the LA area that didnt have an sport program, at least, no that I can think of. I guess having a baseball team will prob be more expensive than a soccer team, I wonder what people at Tech (administrative) would think.

Community colleges in California send their athletes not only to the four year schools, but the pros. Many of the community colleges have a list of their athletes who have gone to the professional ranks listed on their athletic pages. |

I went to a technical college for a year before transferring to USC and I have a 4.0 in grad school. I also turned down a partial soccer scholarship at a small college. Basically, all I am saying is do not generalize students at schools like Midlands. Everyone has a different story and having been at USC, I can say that there are way too many dumbasses who do not belong here.
