69 ACC Champs... Do We Really

Do we really want "1969 ACC Champs" on the Stadium Wrap? I was watching the replay of the 2010 USC/Bama game and notice it "again". I knew it was on the stadium already and I do like the wrap recognizing different accomplishments, but I don't know if being ACC Champs is something I am really proud of at Carolina. I say let's leave the ACC far behind and never look back. Personally, I wish they would take that down.

Well, you may not be proud of it, but the players who won it probably are.

The landscape of college football was totally different back then. Besides, you should be proud of any conference championship.

You're applying a 2012 bias. The ACC was a different conference back then and the conference championship was an accomplishment (which it still is today, although not as big as other conferences).

Those players and coaches deserve to be honored as much as any team in the modern era.

I see your point and I know it was a different time (I'm from that era and even went to a few of the ACC games). I also agree those boys should be honored, but maybe in a different place. Another reason I had for this thread was when announcers come in and see that "1" Championship, they kind of dwell on our years of futility. Add that to today's perception of the ACC and I don't know if it is something we want proclaim loud and clear. Just my opinion, I don't mind you disagreeing.

So, if you take it down and the announcers come in and don't see ANY conference championship banners, you honestly think that will help out with our "years of futility"?

It's possible, but I think the announcers have pretty much formed their opinions of us at this point. Also think it disrespects the guys that won that championship to take it down. Besides, I live in the present, so as long as we're kicking some ass in the here and now, I could care less about what some talking heads think about our past.

Well seeing as that is the only conference championship we have, I say leave it up. I think it's kinda cool. It reminds us of how far we've come to get to where we are today. I see what you're saying though.

Don't worry about it. After this year USC will have 2 more banners up on the stadium SEC champions and National Title Champions.

A conference championship is a conference championship regardless of how distant in the past it is. It is part of our history and it deserves to be honored. Just having one up there should be even more incentive for our players to want to fill every Garnet stripe with an a SEC and BCS Championships

As a senior class member that year, I would like it to remain and as said before I am sure the players for that year would agree! SC fans who basically had only the McGuire era to enjoy have long desired what is now occuring with our athletic successes. Don't begrudge us our limited success.

Take it down and you are likely to offend many alumni and players from that time period. Those people are now in their 50s and are probably some of the biggest money people at USC.

I mean why take it down? That would seem like we are ashamed of the past. I like the fact that we display our championships banners from diffrent decades
