Hate it for the guy, but UK doesn't care about football so cross off Petrino, he will be at Auburn next season. Ellis Johnson would be a great fit.

Joker is good offensive coordinator, just didn't have the tools to be successful at UK.

I don't know if they do it but three names I have thought about would be good fits for them.

1. Frank Solich- Kinda in the Brooks mold that worked well for them. An older established coach who can ride off into the sunset after stabilizing the program.

2. Terry Bowden- He's done some pretty good things since getting back into coaching but I still think he is gonna have to take a job like this or a Indiana type job and prove himself again before getting back to upper tier BCS level schools.

3. Tommy Bowden- For the same reasons as Terry, I don't think anyone at an upper tier BCS school would hire him until again until he had some success at a job like this one. Plus I think his clemson money runs out this year and that is why he hasn't been looking to coach again. Lastly his college football show sucks and I can't imagine they will keep it on.

Ellis Johnson would not be a great fit. That could be the worse hire they could make. They would be better off keeping Joker.

They need an offensive guy and right now Petrino is damaged goods for most big programs. But UK is a relatively low key job and he wouldn't be pressured to win right away. He'd take his lumps year 1 and then build them up through recruiting just like he did with Louisville and Arkansas.

The thing is, UK is not a bad job at all. They have some quarterbacks that are very talented already on the roster and they are a school that can dip into Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, etc and grab players that fit Bobby's system. No they won't get the 4 and 5 star studs but they become a lot more attractive school for kids we recruit with Petrino's offense.

Its really a perfect fit and I'd bet he ends up there. It just makes too much sense.

Isn't Terry Bowden 1-8 at Akron? Horrible hire.

They'll get a offensive guy .. Kingsbury (mentioned before), Lincoln Riley, Sonny Dykes, etc etc would all be intriguing hires after Petrino.

But that is the only way UK is competing. They have to get a offensive guru in there.

I've always compared winning at UK in football is like Carolina trying to win in basketball... It's just a lot of factors that make it hard to win... Location(UK is in between Tennessee and Ohio).. Just like Carolina is right next to NC in basketball... Hard to get elite players to come, when you have historically good programs right next to you

I had a discussion about this with a UT grad last night... We agreed that Petrino is a POS, but as a head coach, he is good enough to overlook what he does off the field...

True but Bobby has made a living by getting kids that aren't highly sought after but fit his system. Look at those Arkansas recruiting classes. They got a little better throughout his tenure but they weren't anything to brag home about. But what they had were players that fit what he wants to do. This is the big reason, along with his scheme, that makes UK a perfect fit IMO.

And if you give him those fertile recruiting areas that UK is located in to dip into, he could turn UK into a 8-9 win program yearly.

He would get a good QB there, and I could see him win 7-8 games a year there after a couple of recruiting classes of his players....

Kirby Smart. I'm thinking they try to get somebody who is a little more defense oriented. I would say Chuck Strong, but the whole same state thing makes me think otherwise.
