Big East schools may vote to dissolve league

With all of the football schools joining into ever-larger lumps of meat, it always seemed like a time would com when at least one hoops-only league would flat-out disappear. I thought it would be a mid-major, like the CAA or Horizon, but it’s one of the BCS leagues, gutted by realignment, that may go down first.

The Big East isn't going away......It is becoming the ACC. The "Football" schools like FSU,Clemson, NC State maybe even VT and UNC may start exploring other options.....A lot will depend on how close to that 50 Million buyout Maryland will be held to.

To me, it appears that the 16 Team super conference is unavoidable and is only a matter of time. It will be interesting to see how this ends up once the dust settles

You may be right, but I still wonder about the SEC...I get it that USC hates us and you don't want us in their and I get the tv market arguments.....I get it..

With that said, sometimes you have to make decisions as a point of prevention than expansion. Clemson and FSU may not offer any more in the TV market than you have, but if FSU and Clemson went to the B12, their Network gets into Florida, Ga, SC, Alabama and NC and does the SEC want that?........They may not care......

Also there is geography to fans and competition. The Big 10 IMO watered down their league adding Maryland and Rutgers.

Of course there is still the chance that the ACC finds a way to stay together and Clemson/FSU dominates the league for the next decade or so

the last line is correct, they (the SEC) does not care, the viewers (anyone with cable or sat tv) will pay slightly increased rates. The fact that "only" 60% of households are tuned into a SEC game this weekend won't matter, every household will share in the cost, just like with any other major tv network, they decide they want more money from the provider when the contract renewal time comes around, the provider passes those costs along to the consumer. Losing that many subscribers isnt an option to a provider (see the AMC/Dish dispute earlier this year).

I don't disagree with you......But part of any of these models is the projected population swings over a period of time and I honestly don't have to wits about stuff like that. With that said, it only takes a few downward years to lose the hold that they have on the nation currently.....

The B1G has NOT watereddown its conference with MD (from EZZ) and Rutgers than the EZZ did by bringing in Syrup and sPitt.

Big ten made a great financial move.

Someone posted it before but even if those TV sets in those markets never watch the Big Ten network, the conference still benefits greatly
