Lost redshirt for Shaq Roland

So now that we've seen the season basically...do you think we should have redshirted Shaq?

I say yes. He had a few chances, but never 'wowed' me like I was hoping when he had a chance.

I do not know how much Roland played. I kept waiting for him to really show up. It didn't happen. Maybe next year.

We won't know until after his senior season if it was a waste. Assuming by that point he has a season that will get him a first or second round pick there's no reason to assume we would have gotten him a 5th year.

He wasn't overly impressive but I would like to give him a chance, assuming he earns it, with the 1st string guys and DT throwing the ball. Would be nice to see him early in a game. Looks like he still has some work to do to make it in the SEC though.

I can understand this sentiment, but don't you think if he was hittin on all cylinders he would have seen more playing time ?

It's mainly due to guys in front of him that are just better at this point (Ace, Bruce, Nick, Damiere, etc)

Also for the most part of the season we were a zone read/short passing team. It wasn't til Arky, Tennessee, Clemson that we even connected with any throws down field in some sort of a consistant manner

i definitely believe their was a reason he didn't see more playing time. just don't know why. maybe he hasn't learned the playbook yet. maybe other guys beat him out because of seniority. maybe the talent is there yet.

Always seemed to drop balls, they would either hit his hands and wiggle out or either mistimed them and hit him in the chest or stomach. Adjusting to the speed and passing of a considerably better QB compared to H.S.

I am glad he played this year. He was able to get some snaps when we didn't necessarily need him to be great. And now he understands what it takes to excel in the SEC. Better routes and downfield blocking, as well as fighting for the ball.

He will be fine. Remember, guys on the team were saying he was a pretty legit talent in practice and I could see it too. There's a reason he was the only freshman WR to see the field this year. Once he adjusts to the game he'll be a good player for us.

I don't claim to know anything about Shaq's situation, but I imagine some recruits base their commitment on not having a RS year. Also, chances are these days the most talented players are not gonna be here for 4 anyway. No reason for angst over it, what's done is done, move on.
