Do we have on our team now or do we have a recruit coming in that would be a large type SEC RB like Alabama and LSU have? It would be great to have a RB who was about 240 to 245 with size and some speed to come in and pound the D-Line or get the close yards when we need them. I remember Andrew Pinnock who was about 250 or more and he was a "handful to tackle". I would like to see one of those type RB's to come in and play along side the ones that we have now.
I often wondered why we did not allow Justice Cunningham to line up in the backfield and give him the ball on close yardage situations as he would be a load to bring down running from the tailback slot? Just my humble opinion but what does the Gamecock Nation think about this? |

A RB like Lacy is hard to find, that is for sure.

I think Wilds is about the closest to what you're talking about. But even he is only listed as 218 right now.

There's a reason why you see these backs at LSU and Bama, b/c there aren't that many.

Kendrick Salley can be that guy after another year or two in the weight room. He is wider than Wilds or Davis.
If we get Williams in the fold this year, we will have an absolute stable of RB in 2 years. Davis, Wilds, Salley, Smith and Williams all can make some noise. |

lattimore pre injury and lacy would be pretty similar in stature. jeremy hill from lsu is "only" listed at 225. kenny hilliard from lsu is about the only back that comes to mind in that 240+ range. theyre not that common anymore. wilds gives you plenty of punch and davis as well being as compact as he is.

This this McDonalds? "Large Size"?
We actually have some.. Wilds is playing at 225/230 (idc if it says under 220, no way he is).. I see him topping out at 230ish.. zero need for a RB to be 240+ unless they are 6'3+ or a FB Mike Davis is 5'9/5'10 210, which is pretty big for that size.. he will only get bigger, I expect 220+ next year, which at that point he will be very tough for one player to bring down

Kenny Miles has proved that weight only matters so much. Knowing how to protect yourself and working out hard is more important. Weight to height ratio while still being fast is the winning formula. 5'7" and 200lbs. was good enough for Barry Sanders. That is a sick ratio to go with all that agility. You can be a human bowling ball and not even weigh 200. As far as I know, Wilds will be the closest thing we'll have to that. Carson has the build to do it too.

Davis will be 225 to 230 in the off season bet your bottom dollar he will put on weight and will be a force. Wilds is at 220 area and can get bigger. Having a 240 pound rb is great and all but i prefer a 220, 225 pound RB !!

A = F/M
For those non-science types, Acceleration = Force/Mass. The larger M gets, the harder it is to increase A. on the flip side, kenetic energy = Mass*Velocity(2) So if you really want to deliver "the hit" and have to make a choice between increasing your mass or increasing your speed, then you want to increase your velocity because the effect of that is squared as opposed to increasing your just your mass.

If you tried to "create" a clone of Marcus Lattimore, Wilds is about as close as you might ever come...
Decent size, strong, long legs and ability to open marginal holes. Saban has cornered the market on oversized bowling balls, but Wilds and the Tazmanian Devil (aka Mike Davis) are fully capable of opening narrow gaps. Wilds, properly used, could be money in short yardage situations. Davis will be, too, but he will need better blocking to work his magic.

Your knees take a terrible beating the bigger you are. Davis will be a chunk next season. He has that low center of gravity needed for great balance. Those guys are more difficult to bring down. Lacy is heavy but has a low center of gravity. He is a bulldozer. James Davis was a load.

Clowney carried it at tailback a few times in HS. I'd like to see him as a blocker in the in the punting formation ala Melvin to make them think a little. Maybe him and Jerrell and Owens.

Bama isn't quite that big....they don't really utilize the FB as much as they do pulling OL and TE to provide a blocking wall for their RBs. They do have junior Jalston Fowler at 6-1, 242 who has appeared in 2 games this season. Their RBs are as follows: Fowler: 6-1, 242 Lacy: 6-0, 220 Yeldon: 6-2, 216 Sims: 6-0, 212 Drake: 6-0, 204 Howell: 5-9, 194 Hart: 5-9, 190 Roberts: 6-0, 189 Our roster looks like this: Wilds: 6-2, 218 Lattimore: 6-0, 218* Davis: 5-9, 216 Salley: 5-9, 205 Miles: 5-9, 193* Carson: 5-8, 192 Lowery: 6-1, 178* Blue: 5-7, 167 * - won't be on roster next season due to graduation or availability to NFL draft. We also have current 2013 commit Jamari Smith at 6-0, 200 as a HS senior, and are heavily in the running for David Williams who is listed as 6-1, 192. Others wanted us to go after '13 prospect Greg Bryant who is listed at 5-11, 197. Our RB measureables match up VERY comparitively with Bama's RBs, but not so much so with LSU's, even if you subtract their fullbacks from the equation (our biggest FB - converted LB Gilchrist - is listed at 245 lbs)...

Justice doesnt ever need to be handed the ball in the backfield. He would be met before he got halfway to the LOS. He's a good player and great hands/blocking but I think he might run about a 5.9 40 lol

One thing I've noticed with Alabama RBs is that their S&C program really gets those guys built up, going back to before Ingram, with Glen Coffee. Huge arms and upper bodies. It makes them look even bigger than they are....

Wilds.
But as we know, looks aren't everything. I'll take a guy who can get the job done over a guy who looks like he can get the job done.
