Do What Feels Right
|
This is from Pat Forde with Yahoo Sports...
First up, he predicts Carolina to beat Michigan in the Outback bowl but look at this: I've always wondered if this would happen...and NO i'm not saying I want Spurrier to retire after the bowl game like he says...i'm just talking about Gruden eventually becoming a head coach here... Gratuitous Gruden rumor: Steve Spurrier is ready to retire. Conveniently, Gruden is working the game as an analyst. Well-placed scources say he already likes the idea of coaching “this guy Jadeveon Clowney.” Word is Spurrier will head straight to the beach and won’t even get on the team plane back to Columbia – but Gruden will. |

Making a decision on coaching a guy for one year? why would we want gruden if that was the case.

I was thinking down the line when Spurrier actually does retire...Gruden and him are very good friends...just wonder if Spurrier would ever consider bringing him here...

Not going to happen.
*Spurrier has promised Connor Mitch that he will be here for at least 4 more years. *Spurrier is seeking to be the winningest coach in SEC history. He is #2 right now about 4/5 seasons away from passing The Bear. As long as he is healthy and can see passing The Bear as a possibility/probability, he will be here. This guy doesn't know much about SOS to have printed these thoughts.

But I do believe when Spurrier does retire that Tanner will be able to hire whomever he wants. Spurrier has built it so we will not have the same issues Aub, Tenn and Arky had.. Posted from Cockytalk.com App for Android

Coach has a legitimate shot at surpassing The Bear. There is no way he is bailing out before he accomplishes that.
He has promised Mitch he would be here for 4 years. The team is just now on the edge of "elite" status -- why would he want to leave before he has a real shot at the NC? He won't leave before he wins the SEC championship at USC. He may have a gentleman's agreement with "Chuckie", and that's fine, but Gruden is young and can wait things out while he collects massive checks as an analyst.

I like conspiracy theories but this isnt one of them. I personal;y think that when spurrier retires he will have bob stoops com to coach here. Spurrier and stoops are very close and if he continues to win then Stoops can make a debut in the SEC. Thats my .02 but i could be very wrong. It is a big open field in a couple of years of who could be hired.

Stoops is not that far fetched. I know there is a feeling that he is underappreciated in Norman. He has been to Columbia and likes it. His family has a beach house in Florida, and he would be 57 years old in 5 years. 3 years younger than when Spurrier arrived. If Stoops "retires" from Oklahoma in a 3-4 years, that would mean he coached 15-16 years at OU. I could see that 1-2 year break as just enough for him to get the itch and head back east.

Spurrier always says he doesn't care much for individual awards so I think he retires when he is ready.....regardless of wins. I don't think he would sign an extension and then retire a couple of months later.

He won't leave until we win the SEC and/or national title. That was his goal when he first came in 2005.

Jon Gruden is unproven as a college HBC...not sure he's a good choice for any SEC team even if someone could pry him from the booth.

There is no way I would want to see Jon Gruden coaching USC. I really wish he would have gone to Tennessee.

will someone please please explain to me what is the huge fascination with jon gruden... he does a few QB bits on ESPN and all of the sudden he is this great amazing smart coach.... i think if he was that great of a coach he'd still be coaching? while i dont think SOS is going anywhere soon i would much rather hire a coach who is young energetic and wants to make his name as a coach here!
