Adam Lambert was runner up to Kris Allen, actually. Even though he's had a better career than him haha. Kind of like the Clay Aiken/Ruben Studdard situation. Clay didn't win but ended up doing better than Ruben.

Have no clue.
I only watched two seasons of it (last two) when Steven Tyler and
Jennifer Lopez were the Judges. Never watched a season prior to that,
and won't watch another one.

I was told by my daugher in law (who is an avid fan of the show) that the
best voices never win. It's always by popularity of home viewers. I
believe that.

Year before last It was clear that two people emerged as "the best
performers / voices". James Durbin and Haley Reinhardt. Durbin had a
couple of weeks of poor performances and even though he was the guy
I thought was the best overall performer, I could see why he was
voted out. However, the best overall voice with the best range of
music was Hailey Reinhardt. She was voted off shortly after that and
it came down to McCreery and that country music Chick (name Escapes
me). Of those two in the final show, I think the Girl blew him off the
stage, yet McCreery won ?!?!?!?

Of last year's shows, I thought the overall talent level of the 12 / 14
finalist was really lousy. The Girl from Charleston was the one I was
pulling for but she just didn't have a string of stong performances and
ended up getting voted off. I actually started out thinking Phil Phillips
was a joke, but as the show went along, he had three or four weeks of
really strong performances and I was actually pulling for him to win
towards the end (which he did). I thought the girl he was in the finals
with (again, name escapes me) was overall the best voice in the group,
but she actually had about three weeks towards the end where her
song selection/ performances were off, and it was at the time (IMO)
Phillips was gettg better. In the end I think they got that one right,
even though I think the girl had a stronger set of pipes and more
potential to become a strong recording artist.

No real favorite with me with the winners but My favorite of the two
seasons was Hailey Reinhardt. That chick could Sing !

American Idol has been a joke ever since Simon left and I honestly don't see how anyone can stomach listening to these judges. I mean...when Randy is your most tenured and respected opinion, you have problems.

FWIW, that was really my last season watching...even though I did watch a little of the Philip Phillips season as he was from very close to where I was born in GA and where many of my family still live.

Yeah, I have to say that while I do watch X-Factor (mostly because my gf does)...they are gearing that artist for a pop career in some form or another. I guess it comes with the territory because you are locked to that label.

However, one thing I do enjoy about the shows is that while a lot of the talent isn't spectacular enough to blow you away...there is always that 1 or maybe 2 extremely talented people that you are just really happy that they found their way. You are kind of glad they were able to share their voice or talent with you.

The girl on X-Factor now, Carly Rose Sonenclar, is an example...the girl is 13 and can do no wrong with her voice. She was born to be heard by a lot of people and it sounds as though she is a 35 year old woman that has been doing it all of her life.

One of the best I have ever heard from either show is Crystal Bowersox. Girl was far from anything considered pop. I'd say she has more talent that anyone who has ever appeared on American Idol.

Have not really watched the show that much over the years unless there was nothing else on at the time, but I will say that Carrie Underwood is a "Baby Doll" and I like the way she sings. I can't say that I have heard her sing live, but many of today's singers, both pop, country, or whatever style can't sing live that well. To me Garth Brooks was the worst singer in the world live and so was Shania Twain until they got the technology better for both of them. Rascal Flatts, their lead singer has gotten so much better than when they first started out as he had such a nasal sound live. It helps out when they have the looks to soften up the sound, so I vote for Carrie Underwood.

Kelly Clarkson and Phillip Phillips are by far the best to me! Carrie isn't so good live, but that could be said for a lot of bands and music artist.

You're correct. I thought Adam should have won, but the producers get to decide that and they wanted Kris to win. To me, Adam was the clear winner (even though not official).
