Every year my wife's family asks me to make my mashed potatoes. I really didn't understand the fascination at first, because I just use the same basic recipe that my mother always used when I was growing up. That was until I tasted the crap they'd been living off of for years. (instant mashed potatoes)
Anyways here is what I do: 1 5lb bag of red potatoes, washed and chopped into small pieces. 2 sticks of butter (sometimes 3 or 4) 1 small container of sour cream salt to taste splash of milk for desired consistency. Boil the potatoes in water until they are soft. Drain, and mash using a hand masher. Return the freshly mashed potatoes to low heat and toss in the butter and sour cream, and stir until it's completely melted. Add salt and milk to get the desired taste and consistency.

Only a few of us so I am going sort of lite this year. Turkey mignons on the grill with a Cajun butter cranberry mustard glaze, a small Kentucky Legend sliced ham that I will kick up with a Coke Bourbon glaze, Sweet potato and pineapple casserole, asparagus, collards & kale, dressing and gravy. There will be a variety of good cheeses, olives, nuts and the like. I'm particularly fond of hot pepper jelly on cream cheese and ginger marmalade on brie. Cheese cake, and apple and pecan pies will round it out. Oh, biscuits too.

Yance, the coke Bourbon glaze sounds like a good addative to the ham. Just curious what type of Bourbon and would pepsi suffice?

Like rum or wine or beer always use something that you would not mind drinking. Pepsi should work just fine. Here is the recipe I started with: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/1...n_1055166.html

Tureky roasted with bacon, sage butter and basted with maple syrup, glazed carrots, mashed potatoes, green beans and some sort of rolls. Just me and the wife, so trying something new with the turkey.

We've got Venison tender loins marinated and wrapped in bacon. Will grill in about an hour. Also have venison summer sausage cut up for appetizers.
