Jonathan Walton Thread (2013 Signee)

USC has offered this kid who is currently committed to Penn St. He is a 3 Star Prospect according to 247. We have had some good luck with Alabama kids so I would not shoot holes in him since he is not a 4 Star. Has good size and has good speed. PSU also does a good job evaluating LB's.

I would assume that we have a chance with this guy or there wouldn't have been an offer or is this just us grasping at straws?

Disagree. You just don't take someone to take them. You don't waste scholarships.

Now let me be clear, I am not saying that specifically about Walton, I am saying that in general - you just don't give a scholarship away.

However, if Golson can actually get in to school - that is who I want.

That is what I am saying, I am saying he must be pretty good otherwise we wouldn't be wasting our time. Maybe he is the 11 LB or so on our list that does mean he is that far off other players we missed out on. He must be pretty close.

After watching his film I am impresssed. Good hips, turns and runs well and moves side to side really well. When you check his height and weight you immediately think squatty type, just a run plugger. He's moves much better than that though.

Remember, Yannick is still on the table, so if they can get him along with this guy and Golson (insurance with his grades) we should be happy.

Remember, Captain Munnerlyn didn't have an outstanding offer list, and he turned out pretty good.

Their linebacker coach is Ron Vanderlinden who has been at that school the past 12 years. I think he knows what he is doing.

Yes, Penn State knows how to evaluate linebackers.

I agree that PSU knows good LB's when they see them. Also Walton recently measured 6'1" and 235lbs. His Coach says he can run 4.5 4.6 range. Fastest I have seen him per the Recruiting guys is 4.7 which is plenty fast enough for a Mike LB. I think this guy would be a nice pickup.

From what they are saying on TBS we are recruiting this guy as a Will LB. It's clear that Botkin like bigger LB's that's for sure.

Yeah, I really like him too, he actually reminds me a lot of Melvin Ingram. Even kind of Looks like him if you ask me.
