Worst call ever in a college football game?

I have seen a few bad calls in my 41 years, but the way Carolina was rooked by the head referee on the Fourth Quarter spot and chain measurement call could be the cream of the crop:

Yeah, one of (maybe the) worst calls I have ever seen.

But, if they gave us the 1st down, that SICK hit from Clowney may have never even happened.

That was a real "rip" job, but what happened next? The ball never lies. If it belongs to a team, it will get there.

The side view that ESPN showed after the break was vindicating. Not.Even.Disputable.

I expect no less from the same crew that couldn't get a game-winning FG right last year. Big Least sucks.

Todd Ellis talked about these Big East refs with Spurrier.

Spurrier said he asked one of the other officials that if the ball wasn't touching the first down stake, why did the ref signal first down?

The official said that he doesn't know.

Then Todd Ellis said that there may be a reason why the Big East is falling apart.

It was a blessing in disguise, because If it would not have been a first down then we wouldn't have been able to see Clowney crush the Michigan player. JUSTICE.

It was as bad as I've ever seen, no doubt. There were enough bad and odd calls in the fourth period that it gave me some sizeable suspicions.

Did you notice that the ref with his hand on the ball never moved even though it was called a first down? He KNEW it wasn't....and he didn't want to move it.

Yahoo already has an article declaring this one of the worst calls ever

Good point. The ironic thing is that not only did we get to witness Clowney make one of the biggest hits ever in a bowl game (I mean, did that running back's head come off with his helmet?), but Carolina actually had better field position after the hit than if the referee had made the correct call on the 4th down measurement.

I agree it was terrible, honestly one of the worst I've seen. But damn if it didn't make the next play that much more incredible.
