QB Perry Orth enrolled in classes at USC and will be walking on to the football team. Was going to post this in his thread but I saw it was locked. Does anybody know anything about him?

Certainly likes to throw on the run even without setting his feet. Quick release, and seems to trust his arm. Interesting.

He's got a pretty good arm. He's also got a great attitude. Spurrier called him personally to offer him the walk on spot, so they saw that he has the ability to make a positive impact on the team. Scout guys are valuable, and who knows what he could do with hard work. He shaved 3 tenths off of his 40 during the year off between high school and college, and he added 30 good pounds.

i find it hard to believe that not one single school offered this guy. of course, that is based on the film i see. he really does look good. i know there are other factors involved and its not just what you see on the field. but, he does look promising. he reminds me a bit of dylan thompson.

He pumps before he throws, quite a bit. Release is ridiculous though.

So I looked up his stats and I think I see what could be a reason he didn't get offers. He only threw for 1468 yards in his senior season. But that is very misleading. He only attempted 193 passes. He completed 63% and threw 13 TDs to only 4 Ints. Those are pretty good stats. It is just that his school must have run an offense where they didn't throw a ton. He averages less than 20 passes per game. He is listed as 6'1" and 205 lbs so his size shouldn't have kept him from getting offers. I realize he isn't 6'3", but he is definitely a big enough kid that his size shouldn't have been the issue. His team also went 11-2 so it isn't like he was on a horrible losing team. The more I look at this it is kind of odd. He is rated as the 53rd best prospect in Florida by MaxPreps. I realize 53rd isn't superstar level, but Florida has a TON of kids. That is not the same as if he was the 53rd best prospect in South Carolina. |

A upgraded Seth Strickland is what I am hoping for. If Seth had an arm, he might have been our starting QB at some point. He knew the offense and where to go better than any of the other QBs on the team. Hopefully Perry can do the same.

It will be fun the next two years when Shaw/Thompson/other QB has a bad game and people on Cocky talk start suggesting this guy get PT.

Good tools.
Mechanics need A LOT of work...especially his feet. But hey, if Spurrier offered him a walk on role, he must be able to play. Who knows...maybe he turns into a solid scout team guy to make our defense better, or maybe Spurrier found a diamond in the rough. Welcome to Gamecock Nation!
