I can see Bass Pro coming to Columbia.I don't think the Upstate is big enough for both especially when Bass Pros are already in Atlanta,Myrtle,Charlotte and Savannah.I'd way rather have Cabelas.Much better quality in my opinion.

Bass Pro is already looking in the upstate. Do not laugh, but the mayor IS my neighbor. Greenville and Sparklecity are merging.

where I live here in East TN, we just had it announced that Cabela's was coming to Bristol, TN and then not more than 2 days later, Bass Pro said they were coming too! I am excited.

Meanwhile, Columbia continues to suck hind teat. That what you get when you have all the state politicians located in your area. :-(

Cabelas wanted to come to Charleston several years ago and our wandering gov Mark Sanford torpedoed that because they were looking for tax incentives.Tax incentives or not, these places generate a ton of sales tax and state income tax revenue, much of it from out of staters.

Oh come on. Columbia is home of our University. That and our government more than fill Columbia. The I85 corridor started this thing. Charlotte to Atlanta is hot.
Greenville has managed our downtown very, very well, but don't knock our school. Some of it is related to our growing airport. Thank you, Southwest Airlines. The proposed light rail connection from Charlotte to Atlanta is exciting. The four level interchange will be interesting and huge. Last edited by Garnet girl; 01-17-2013 at 11:25 AM. I would so much rather be living in Greenville than Columbia right now.

Can't see where you think I'm "knocking our school". Industry (or lack thereof) in Columbia is a function of local and state politics gone bad and has little to do with our university. In fact, in years past the relationship between USC and the city has been tepid at best. Our local leaders really don't know how to run a city much less establish long lasting business relationships that work to the benefit of all.

Sadly it has more to do with the average socio-econimic status of the city residents. I agree though that it doesn't help that Columbia is especially inefficient on every level, from traffic flow to design.

Another big plus the upstate has going for it is the proposed "inland port" near Spartanburg which will see containers off loaded from trucks to rail and sent to the port in Charleston. This will be a boon for both the upstate and Lowcountry as well as helping us all by getting much truck traffic off the interstates.

^^seems like that would bring more trucks to this area and keep more trucks off the roads in other states?
