I still feel like You Were Always On My Mind by Willie Nelson is the
greatest Country music Song EVER... One of the best songs ever written
Period, but he was voted out of this tourney, so if I had chose a #2
as the Best Country Music Song of all time, it would be Crazy by Patsy
Cline. The Girl could SING ! .. and IMO, this was her best. I voted for
Crazy

For me, particularly in this round, it was hard to vote against Crazy.

Thing about Patsy, aside from the great voice, she had the innate sense in how to present the song, the timing and pace of the lyrics and the emotion as if the story of the song she was singing really happened to her.

Each time I hear her sing, I think, "That is one of the best songs (versions, performances) I have ever heard", then I hear another song by her and think the same thing all over, again. She elevated the level of the song via her talent.

With rare exceptions, only three singers I know of in our short recorded American history of song were able to do that...Patsy Cline, Judy Garland, and Ella Fitzgerald. Sinatra could, in his prime, then slowly became a parody of himself as he aged, trying to portray "cool" as much as the songs he sang.

It's Ella, buy a wide margin due to her longevity and depth of work. She's the best singer ever, no question.

I agree. If I have to pick just one, Ella is my favorite.

Actually I much prefer Sinatra as he aged to his teeny boppery years from '35 to '70. The smokes and the whisky and life's hard knocks improved him I think over the next two decades. The last time I saw him in '90 he was rather pitiful though. He looked lost and his voice had become thin and his perfect delivery was uneven. It was shockingly sad. Agree 100% about Ella.
