Baseball team prediction thread...

I don't think we'll have the pitching for that to happen this year or the offense to offset the pitching. I don't think FLA or Vandy will be real strong either do I expect to compete for the east title and win our regional, anything can happen after that. Just depends on how close out guys mesh this year.

We didn't lose a lot of guys but the guys we lost were huge...Roth, Price at P, then Marzilli and Walker on offense. I'm sure I'm missing a couple.

The core of young guys in the batting order should get better and I think overall we will be a more complete hitting team. We will have to find a couple clutch hitters though to replace Walker/Marzilli.

Montgomery and Holmes have the ability to be a very good 1-2 punch at SP and hopefully Koumas come along and plays up to his ability. It'll be nice to have Webb to rely on in the pen again.

I'm thinking something like 41-16 regular season.

I like how you're thinking, but.....

50 wins in the entire season (regular and post) is more likely. If we had 50 wins in the regular season then that would mean only 6 losses! Not very likely. I do predict we make the CWS this year though that is all I'm willing commit to this early.

40-42 regular season wins has been the norm around here for a couple of years, and I think that will be the case again. Throw in 1-2 wins in the SEC Tourney, then host and win a regional.

One thing I (and I'm sure everyone else) learned the last three seasons is to NEVER bet against this team.

Sounds about right, I just know our relief pitching was terribly thin last year and I hope we can have some guys step up this year.

Pretty sure we'll be a better hitting team, pitching isn't exactly thin either, just gotta find our closer. We've got all the tools, only real unknown is Holbrook's style. If we win 40+, I'd be pleased as punch.............

Holbrook's style is not all that "unknown". He's been a lot more hands on than people realize since he got here. His style is a bit more aggressive, but overall his style is very much like Ray's.

50 regular season wins is a lot, and almost unheard of these days. I'm aware we did it in 2000, but the game has changed A TON since then.

Winning 50 games means only having six off nights during the course of a season. Given that we play @UF, @LSU, and Vandy at home, you could see three or four losses just from those nine games alone.

We'll win around 40 regular season games, possibly a few more. Anything between 40-16 and 42-14 means you're in pretty good position for a top 8 seed.

1 - I never make such predictions with regards to an actual number of games won in a season. (Note we only won 55 all of last season, 49 when we won it all in 2011, and 54 in 2010.) I will make, and have made, predictions on how far I think we could possibly go in any given season. But to actually give/expect a certain number of wins...you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

2 - Anyone who follows college baseball regularly knows that 50 regular season wins is VERY unrealistic in today's game. Heck it was unrealistic when we did it in 2000. If you are able to do that, you have had a beyond spectacular regular season, especially given that we play in the SEC. 50 win regular seasons are few and far between. (See other responses in this thread.)

Being a student of the game of College Baseball for 35 years has taught me this, among many other things about the game.

I will predict this season will be exciting!!! How do you follow up the last three years? I mean 2 NC's, and a runner up? Are we spoiled or what?

I've never understood how people can give a prediction on an exact number of wins in a baseball season. There are too many games, thus many chances to have an "off-night," thus the chance of a team's record shifting +/- a handful of wins. The best thing to do with baseball is to give a number range of games you think a team can win.
