Worst team name ever

NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Hornets owner Tom Benson is changing his team's nickname to the Pelicans and said the switch will create a bond with the city that could lead to a championship.

The Hornets announced Thursday they are going ahead with the name change. The NBA still has to approve it, but commissioner David Stern has said he wouldn't object to any name Benson chose. The league is expected to expedite the change at the start of next season.

The new color scheme is blue, gold and red, a departure from the Hornets' teal, purple, gold and white.

While the name isn't strong, it does reflect the area and I actually think the logoset isn't half bad when you have a Pelican to work with.

I like Lakers. It's Unique. Not something like Tigers or Bulldogs.
But they were originally started in Minneapolis. The name was inspired by Minnesota's state nickname "Land of 10,000 Lakes"

Maybe it's because I live at the beach but I love Pelicans and have no issue with the name at all. Pelicans rule.

There are far worse names in every sport both college and pro. Hell even if you just used the bird names you can find a dozen or more that are just as odd if you really think about it.

The "Bobcats" are named after the shithead who was the first owner of the team. That's a truly awful name. I like the Pelicans as a team name. It fits the city of New Orleans, and pelicans are badasses.
